If it was for something like this I don't mind a few bucks extra to cover him. That same perpetrator might have gone on and done tried his crap again that same night. I think it fact this guy saved the insurance industry quite a few bucks with his action.

From my very limited understanding, it would depend on the circumstances... if they were pointing a gun at you and you reasonably believed yourself to be in danger, then you could claim self defence.

If they were fleeing as appears to be the case in this story and posing no danger to you, then it would be murder.

South african law places the right to life above all others, so if you can flee the situation, it's your duty to do so.

I doubt very much his insurance will pay out for willful damage. It's a pity though. This oke deserves a medal or at least a bells.
