I tested Bolt's cheapest ride option and had a blast

I recently got the opportunity to order a Bolt Lite ride for a short trip in Fourways and was thoroughly impressed by the experience and the price.

The platform offers Bolt Lite trips in the Bajaj Qute quadricycle for short-distance journeys. It was the first time the option was available to me in the app, as I typically use ride-hailing services for longer trips.

You wouldn't catch me dead inside one of those things. Their non-existant safety features mean there is a good chance you will be dead in one of them.

First thing I thought when I saw that photo. You're probably safer on a motorbike than you are in that death trap.

I had one of these on the N3 last week. He could barely hit 80, yet stayed in the second lane creating a massive traffic jam.

Bajaj Qute receives one-star rating in crash test - ECR

According to the Euro NCAP crash test, it scored a dismal one-star out of five, although the company is delighted with this rating.

The quadricycle, which is classified as a lightweight four-wheeled vehicle for intra-city travel, scored better than many of its competitors, which is even harder to believe.

At first, South Africans thought they had hit the jackpot when they discovered the price, but they misinterpreted it and the car was not available for only R150/pm. But you can read more about it here.

Now it seems like the car is once again causing a stir.

As it turns out, the cost of the car should be the least of our concerns!

According to David Ward, the Global NCAP secretary-general, the fact that the Bajaj Qute performed slightly better than other quadricycles should not really be celebrated, as the car still does not perform well.

In total, it scored a 10 out of a maximum of 32: six out of 16 for frontal crashes, and six out of 16 for side crashes, with these results revealing that there is a very real possibility that any passengers could suffer severe or even fatal chest and head injuries.

Can the company improve the safety rating?

It can be done if they look into limiting the speed of the vehicle and by adjusting the fitment for the airbag and the three-point inertia-reel seat belt.

Well, we don't know about you, but until those changes are made, we might not be asking any Bajaj drivers for a lift.

You can watch the little Bajaj Qute be put to the test right here:

I had one offered to me today in Northcliff for the first time and I was tempted, but the wait time was 14 minutes so just ordered something that I could get sooner. Just want to try it out for the experience.
