Three bombs were found on a Durban beach on Tuesday afternoon, bringing to nine the number of the devices recently discovered in the area, police said.
"We have found three more bombs at the beach. Three bombs were also
found in the past few weeks in the surrounding area," said Captain Vincent Mdunge.
He said they would be taken to the bomb disposal unit for further analysis and detonation.
Mdunge said the bombs were found on the sand in front of Addington Hospital.
The beach was immediately cordoned off and paramedics were called for assistance should there be an explosion, said Netcare 911's Jeff Wicks.
He said two of them look liked naval projectors predating the 1950s.
Mdunge did not believe the bombs were planted there, agreeing that they looked very old.
