Anyone here keeps books in garage? Need to clear space in cupboard for son's books and was thinking of putting some shelves in garage. I can imagine dust would be issue so probably has to be proper cupboards and not open shelves. Easy access could be other issue as well but I suppose life is compromise. :)

Life style of the rich townhouse living. LOL.

I would think moisture may be more of an issue compared to dust, but it depends on your climate.

I don't get the reason why people keep tons of books around that probably never get read again. Go ebooks - you can at least search through the content.

Thanks, Jozi so mostly dry. Haven't seen any damp in garage yet except for a patch which is close to garage door and that at the lower side. Cabinets (if done) will be higher up.

Moisture, but not only. Also compare, relative to the house: temperature both hot and cold), sunlight as a detriorating factor, artificial light for access when one actually wants to read a book, dust and other kinds of dirt (if the garage is also a workshop), insects, ghekos, rodents.

This, had to throw books away that was stored in shelves.
I generally go through books that I haven't read and donate some to library every other year or so. Probably that is what you mean by 'Throw away'.

Thanks for all suggestions. I suppose I need to reduce book collection anyways. Let me make some effort to see if I can get ebook versions for books that I have.
