I want to install a Tapo C210 wifi camera into a friend's room at an old age home (trying to combat theft!). The home provides wifi for the residents but the signal is weak & unstable which is causing me issues when trying to connect the Camera & pair it to her app (on iPhone).

Is there anything I can get that can boost the signal a bit. Problem is, I don't want to involve the home at all as I would prefer for them not to know immediately what I am doing. Any advice would be great.

Some quick thoughts,
  • If the camera position is flexible, walk around with your phone (use e.g. the Wifi Analyzer app) and find a spot with the strongest signal, then put the camera there
  • It could be that the wifi camera's antenna/receiver isn't too great - add a wifi repeater somewhere in the room
  • Not sure how flexible the camera's app is, but if the location of the theft is specific, say a closet in the corner of the room, and that does not have much human traffic, then set the camera to only record when movement is detected at the closet. With little data usage you could just use an old phone with small data bundle somewhere and create a hotspot for the camera to send the images through
