Hey guys, I live in a area where there is reasonably good Vodacom signal, except at MY HOUSE. Is there anyway I can boost the signal at my place with a outside antenna of some kind? I have a Iphone and all I get is GPRS and maybe Edge unless I go outside the house and stand at JUST the right angle:D I will get 3G.

So the question beckons.

1. Can I boost the Vodacom signal at my place?
2. If so where can I procure said signal booster?
3. And finally what are the cost implications?

Take Note I live in Strandfontein Western Cape and the nearest Vodacom tower is not more than 2km from my place of residence.

Try Poynting. Other than them I don't know really, but the okes in the know should drop some useful commentary here ;)

A Poyting antenna solution is highly recommended. In the past they undertook to refund you if the solution does not work for you.

To find out if it will work for you: Take your cellphone, climb onto the roof of your house and stand where you want the antenna cable to enter the house. Check the signal strength on your cellphone. Hopefully this shows a significant improvement over what you are currently getting inside the house.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure the roof will be able to hold me(I just managed to beat anorexia :D). This pointing antenna where can I procure this and what are the cost implication ?

Hopefully you have all ready had a chance to look on the website. ;)

You do not necessarily need to mount an antenna on your roof either.
The window mount antenna (high gain) can be used indoors. The kit has everything included for a quick set-up.
Come and try one; if it is not performing as you expect it to, return it for a your full money back.
We are near Canal Walk, the address is on the site.

On the other hand, our 24Hr to 48Hr courier cost is R100

... maybe it is a tad bit too far to just pop by ...

:)

I have one of these attached to my B970 and it's working really well for me :)

Reading your sig just now:
65.89% of South Africans support corruption, brandishing automatic rifles in public and showering as a deterrent to catching HIV after unprotected sex.

Surely brandishing an automatic rifle would count as 'protected sex'?

/added/

This post must surely win the most off-topic award? :)

bex im also 2kms from the same tower i use the B970 router and i have full signal permanently im VERY impressed with vc after fighting telkom for a year my neighbour works at vc and he setup my router contact me if u wanna check it out

Well thank you everybodg for the reply I have solved the problem and it cost me all of R5.00 Yes I went out bought a MTN starter pack and put me Vodacom contract sim back in its original packaging and will now just pay the monthly contract fee. It does not make financial sense to spend a further thousand just get a better signal

weird my mtn signal is TERRIBLE again lol its all these dunes here in strandfontein ps starter packs are 99c you got robbed LOL

Your solution is the right one if you only need MTN access at home. Do you travel to clients, need access at work, etc? For the same reasons that Vodacom signal is poor in your house, MTN might be poor at work, one or two key clients, etc.

I dnt travel at all. The Iphone is purely for the cool feature :D. my office has Wifi so I get wonderful WiFi for free at the office. So Signal at home is the primary concern. But thanks anyway :D ;)

Hi guys, sorry did not want to create a new thread for a similar question.

My situation is as follows, the company I am working for is inside a office park, in one of the buildings, and me and 2 other guys sit in the server room way at the back of the office. The Vodacom reception is terrible in here and its getting very very annoying! People (clients) can't phone us, sms comes through in hordes once some signal is acquired and it just sucks!

The office room we are in is the ONLY spot in the entire office that has this problem, if I stand up and walk to the door, the signal picks up a little bit again. So its basically a 6x4 meter office that has really bad signal.

Any ideas or suggestions would help A LOT, tired of this problem. :(

Vaguely still on this thread.........my GPS does not accept an external antenna, and does not receive well through my tinted (I believe there is a metal film in the middle) windscreen. Years ago I had an Ericsson 197 car kit which had an outside aerial glued over an internal pad to get abetter signal. I've also seen some kind of inside plus outside pad to improve cellphone reception in a car.
Can anyone suggest either something off the shelf or boer-maak-n-plan for me?

Cory
