Ok kewl. I'm a RF engineer, and just curious to see you use those units as I don't often see them. 40dB is alot of gain, so I don't completely believe those numbers, though for just an indicator sake, it seems alright. It's interesting to see this thread start again after so many months. I'm interested in this topic as well, as my sister lives a bit far out. Just trying to find some time before I get to fix that.
My setup is a bit strange. In my study I have a window which looks out over a passage. On the other side of the passage is a wall that ends in the middle of the window. If I setup my notebook on my desk I pretty much have two walls between me and the outside world and virtually no signal. By placing the antenna on the part of the window that is not obscured by the second wall I get much better signal. So yes the gain does look at lot, but it is true
The problem also I discovered when comparing my B970 to the E630 is that the E630 doesn't actually pull that great a signal. Where the E630 suffered at -101 dBm the B970 managed -89 dBm with its internal antenna.
