Running windows via BootCamp on a MBP, which Windows OS is the fastest.
I had XP for a while, then tried Windows 8.
Reverted back to XP.
I have never run Windows 7 tho.

What is the general consensus (loaded question I realize) regards which OS to run ?

7 or 8. Windows 7 is probably the best Windows ever, but having just started using 8 I have to admit it's growing on me. Haven't had a single problem just a bit of a learning curve.

Windows 7 works great in BootCamp. I tried Windows 8 but it was slow and had issues with power management and display drivers that caused the display to switch off whenever it wanted to.

Window 8 is definitely the best in terms of speed. Faster boot and shut down time, less memory usage and it feels smoother.

Windows 8 if you can. Hopefully the multi-touch track pad will support the gestures because trust me, it makes a huge difference.

The windows 7 bootcamp drivers work 100%...

Windows 7. I won't try Windows 8 until it has matured a bit and gained more driver support, especially since you're considering installing through Bootcamp.

Win 8 + UEFI boot FTW!

Think i will try 7 since i have tried xp and 8.
Also hated the interface on 8 but found an app to disable "metro".

It's called the windows button lol. Oh, I forgot, no such thing on a Mac :D

Yeah, me neither - I had to take the time and was quite surprised at how many significant 'under the surface' changes are there. If you have the time, read up on UEFI and the benefits - it's pretty fascinating.

I'l def have a look, but I think the main reason for lack of fiddling is that it just seemed to work straight out of the box

I would say go for Windows 8, I am considering installing it on my Macbook Air.

I like to have the latest iteration of something.
