Did a speedtest to BTC (Orange gets their bandwidth from them) just now..... 464ms.... download 53kb/s .... upload 10 kb/s .

I will pay good money for better bandwidth.

For a 256k service, those download speeds are actually beyond respectable.. I would have expected figures in the region of 0.02Mb/s

Bugger.. you're right, I've been using my internal adaptation of speedtest too long ...

We have something similar and it reports in megabyes and gigabytes a second.. Oops....

The packages are uncapped, but speed limited and can't be compared with 3G and the like.

Yes, that is true.

The point I'm trying to make is that Orange (as a registered ISP) do not always deliver the goods. They get their bandwidth from BTC and must distribute it proportionally between their clients (whether it is Livebox, Flybox or 3G+). If I get only a 1/4 of the deal, why would the other get it better (proportionally).

Ultimately you'll find that the quality of your service depends on the local distribution network....

If you're in a part of Botswana that doesn't have a great distribution network you can expect degraded performance, where as someone else who is near a great distribution network will get much better performance.
