No, but its not a bouncers job to impose the law ^_~
They aren't allowed to beat people up unless in self defense, its against the law.

There are always two sides to a story, and everyone always believes the poor patron who just came to have a quiet drink with his friends. A bouncer cannot do more than ask a person to behave or leave. If that person refuses, there's not much else to do than take him outside is some non-violent way, and that is when he starts fighting and when the bouncer teaches him a lesson, he is branded a steroid-fuelled neanderthal. On the other hand, should it turn out the other way, the bouncer 'got what he deserved'. Pretty sad.

You should also note, out of all the clubs there are, and out of all the nights they are open, cases of bouncer violence are comparatively low. As you say, the bouncer should not impose the law, but rather the rules of the venue. Fighting, throwing bottles, swearing at people, being drunk and throwing up and pissing on couches and in corners, all of those things are his job.

Not all bouncers are pigs.

At gym I have a couple of bouncers that train with me and they the nicest guys u could come across.
There are elements within the bouncing community that are giving the profession a very bad name.

Effective screening to determine if a guy has the mental aptitude for the job needs to be done.

Not sure if the profession is regulated but maybe thats the way to go.

Bouncers are sometimes necessary because alcohol induced idiots start acting like animals.
Bouncers acting like animals should be summarily kicked out of the profession.
My two cents worth.

The article headline and content are pathetic. It implies that he is a bouncer for FTV which is not the case at all and only serves to question the venue's credibility. He was a patron of FTV and is in no way affiliated with them in an employment capacity. Very poor journalism on their part, bordering on irresponsible.

I have heard from the actual bouncers at FTV that it wasn't a completely unprovoked attack as Mr Da Silva would like it to come across and stems from a lot more history between the two and Mr Da Silva's buddies in particular. I do agree though that regardless of provocation, it's about time the law served its course with Gull Yahav...

The knife story is something completely different. It does not involve drunk patrons and yes, that is barbaric anyway. And you don't need to be strong to take out a drunken patron, but remember, they are not always passed out, sometimes they are just troublemakers, not even drunk. These sorts tend to try and fight and hit back, and that's where the trouble comes in.

Actually this is a pretty rare occurrence for FTV - it's not the norm at all. There is rarely a fight and if there is the bouncers take care of it decently and promptly. Evidently you haven't been there too often...

Oh what a heap of bollocks man! You're sucking that straight out of the assumption book. 90% of the women are on coke!? Do you honestly believe that? I know PLENTY of people at FTV - maybe 1 out of every ten does coke. Your assumptions are baseless, mindless and just plain disturbing if you honestly believe it to be true...

Which FTV do you go to? Wow such a response. Did I touch a nerve?
All I am saying is that majority of people are using some kind of illegal / mind altering substance when going out be it drugs or even alcohol. This mixed with guys who are on juice, aggressive etc tends to lead to fights, I know, I worked in a nightlclub for 2 yrs in Randburg, very popular one.
That is how I know Gil.

Sure 90% of the people are on alcohol - you stated that 90% of the women are on coke. That's what touched a nerve - it's just utter bollocks. The juiced up guys have been slowly weeded out of Elite afaik as well so here's hoping that issue is resolved, but I doubt it. Which nightclub did you work at? PM me if you don't want to divulge it - we have probably met before then...;)

No disagreements there - some places are just more prone to drugs than others, but there are drugs in every single club, even the Presleys of the world...

Coke & cat does seem to be the drugs of choice. But it's say 90% is a bit steep. But then on the other hand, people that you'd never expect to do so, take coke.

Did you walk up to the entrance, and when he saw you didn't comply to the dress code he smacked you?

No, we walked up to the entrance and the bouncer said there was a problem with my mates shoes, but that he was going to call his manager about it???

So we waited while he left, in the meantime another bouncer who'd been standing a few feet away walked up to us, put is hands on our chests and started moving us away from the "rope" thingy. We walked backwards with him, but as we got to that brick pillar just outside the entrance he launched us across the courtyard... I landed on my butt, and mate on his elbow.
