Boy’s 3-year racist hell

People feel a teacher insulted them and then get vindictive about it and try the teacher in the court of public opinion ruining the teachers good name because of a personal grievance. Its very common. The fact that the principle took no further action immediately says there are two sides to this story.

Still, I had a narrow minded and backwards teacher verbally abuse me in front of my entire class when I was in grade 2 and Std 1 for my religious beliefs so I also sympathize for the kid if the story is even half true.

And if it's not true?

At my school we have had plenty of cases where the parents lie and fabricate stories just as much as the child.

At my wifes hometown a girl falsely accused a teacher of sexual harassment to get rid of him, being a small town he was forced to leave. My brother in law now much older was there at the time of the incident but did not say anything at the time because the girl was his best friend, now only last year did he clearly tell us the teacher did not do what was claimed at all....and yet that teahers life was ruined many years back by a false claim.

Truth is that if the teacher used the word "coollie" on the pupil ,no matter what the circumstances, he should be fired and taken to court.Thats disgusting in this day and age.Like gary says a quick questioning of other students in the class will reveal if indeed this kind of racial abuse was inflicted.

To what end?
Maybe the kid didn't like the teacher disciplining him about other issues so he is turning it all around,9 year olds are not as dumb as you may think.

But if the principle really did tell the parents he should wear longer sleeves then this really smacks of discrimination due to the red band itself from the teacher and both him and the principle should be fired.

To what end?

Lots of ends. To cover for their children and themselves because of the **** job they are doing as parents. Some situations range from 'why homework wasn't done' to situations where a child's parents have no control over their own kids at home or anywhere else, hence his/her behaviour at school. This comes out during disciplinary hearings regularly. When a child sits detention for a certain amount of times we call in the parents.

are you kidding me........

No, it would be good to hear all three versions. if he was racist and took his wrath out on the child then he must be fired of course but at least lets get all the facts. The other kids would know I am sure.

Was he a teacher or a student?

Not defending him, but I would like to hear the teacher's side of the story first.
Having known a lot of teachers, it is always good to get both sides of the story.
What the teachers have to put up with among the students these days is equally as shocking.
They will have to interview other students in other classes to establish a definite pattern of abuse.

While I feel for teachers in this country, they have a responsibility to the kids, first and foremost, and no amount of abuse by the kids warrants retorts to a 9 year old of this nature. If you're not mature enough to blow off 9 year olds' behaviour and/or abuse, then you are not in a position to be teaching them...

I reckon the one thing SA is lacking is diversity and tolerance.

Well we're certainly not lacking in diversity, that's for sure, and issues with tolerance are a human trait and not unique to SA. We are incredibly sensitive of issues deemed non-PC though and politicians use this to their advantage, to the detriment of tolerance in this country. No amount of over-the-top responses will help to cultivate tolerance imo...

First line guy.

You need to work on your comprehension skills, guy. If you are a result of the current education system then all is forgiven and understood ;)

Nothing in the above indicates that his brother in law was the implicated teacher. It merely states that his brother in law was present during the time of the accusations and did nothing.

Okay I see what you mean. i would think the brother in law was a student though , firstly he was best friends with the girl who was a student and secondly he says his brother in law is now much older and hence spoke out about it now only, as if he is more matured now. It tells me at the time he was too young/scared/immature to say anything.

But yes , that's maybe a little too much comprehension lol

Oh sorry , I have been out of the current education system for about 20 odd years now so it cant be that , don't know if I should consider myself fortunate or not though , probably the former. :)

I totally agree with you... but what does that have to do with this case?
So far we only have the parents and the kids version of the story.
Why don't we wait until we have the rest of the story?

You mentioned what teachers have to deal with, which comes across as somewhat of an inferred justification. I'm merely pointing out that no amount of abuse could justify this, if it is true. I'm working on the assumption that the article is an accurate portrayal of the circumstances, which is all we have to go on for now, as you pointed out.

If we waited to hear every side of every story before commenting on this forum, it would be an incredibly desolate place...

no, not an inferred justification. Just one foreseeable possibility.
I agree it would be boring to wait for confirmation on each and every story, but on the word of a 9 year old child alone... I think we should wait for more info.

And I don't think he was for 3 years in this particular teacher's class.
