NOVEMBER 21--A 12-year-old Florida student was arrested earlier this month after he "deliberately passed gas to disrupt the class," according to police. The child, who was also accused of shutting off the computers of classmates at Stuart's Spectrum Jr./Sr. High School, was busted November 4 for disruption of a school function. A Martin County Sheriff's Office report, a copy of which you'll find below, notes that the 4' 11" offender admitted that he "continually disrupted his classroom environment by breaking wind and shutting off several computers."

Dude it depends hey, some people freakin sink something chronic.

The smell of some people leaves me feeling rather sick, if he has no respect for his class-mates then kick the lil f$%^er out.

Misleading title. He wasn't just farting, he was shutting down computers as well. But arresting him????

Arrested for farting?!!! Has the world gone mad?! (No need to answer - we know, we know). Makes me long for the Days Before PC (political correctness):

1973 vs. 2008

Scenario: Jack pulls into school parking lot with rifle in gun rack of his truck.
1973: Vice Principal comes over, takes a look at Jack's rifle, goes to his truck and gets his to show Jack. They arrange a weekend skeet-shoot.
2008: School goes into lockdown, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1973: Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up best friends.
2008: Police called, SWAT team arrives, arrests Johnny and Mark. Charge them with assault, both expelled even though Johnny started it.

Scenario: Jeffrey won't be still in class, disrupts other students.
1973: Jeffrey sent to office and given 6 of the best by Principal. Sits still in class.
2008: Jeffrey given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. School gets extra money from state because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his father's car and his Dad gives him a whipping.
1973: Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.
2008: Billy's Dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. Billy's sister is told by state psychologist that she remembers being abused herself and their Dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has affair with psychologist.

Scenario: Pedro fails high school English.
1973: Pedro goes to summer school, passes English, goes to college.
2008: Pedro's cause is taken up by state Democratic Party. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro given diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he can't speak English.

Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle, blows up an ant hill.
1973: Ants die.
2008: BATF, Homeland Security, FBI called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, FBI investigates parents, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated, Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario: Johnny falls while running during class break and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary, hugs him to comfort him.
1973: In a short time Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2008: Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny is prescribed thrice-weekly sessons with school counselor and placed on remedial program to monitor self-destructive behavior.

Scenario: Johnny farts loudly in class to embarrass his teacher, Miss (not Ms) Jones
1973: Miss Jones calls Mr Rodriguez, the PT teacher, who takes Johnny under his wing at 2nd break, for a bit of Personal Hygiene and Manners Training, aka 6 of the best.
2008: ... arrest!

Amongst other indicators, the above scenarios illustrate why society generally is f*****d.

Yeah and the one time the kid gets past security with his semi automatic we have a Columbine... Kids are just so unpredictable these days and they so difficult to read/understand. I would be inclined to ban plastic cutlery too before we really have a tragic mass stabbing on our hands...

Perhaps he wasn't actually arrested but rather had something fitted to "arrest" the farts? Gas tight underpants!

How can you be arrested for farting? That's a "blow" below the belt!

A few years back, we would have gotten a bloody good hiding and that would be the end of it. Nowaday it would be an infringement of the kid's human rights. Rather arrest him/her and end up in court instead... Life is becoming way too complicated these days.

It is a bit harsh but I remember when I was in grade 7/8. Some kids had absolutely no respect and I'd have loved to see them arrested :p
