Boy killed after being mistaken for monkey

What makes you think he'll get off or only serve short time? If anything it's been white farmers who have received rather lenient sentences from the courts for killing people on their farms.

Did you read the article? I suggest you do ;)

That is a generalisation, and better representation also contributes to more lenient sentences. The sentence is pending on the circumstances, and good representation does not always cost you an arm or a leg.

I said "been", as in recent cases involving white farmers they got off light. Pitbull was the one making an unfounded generalisation by implying that because the shooter has now been found to be black he'll somehow get off light just by virtue of this skin colour. I only made a reference to past cases and didn't try to speculate as to why in those cases involving white farmers, the sentences were light.

This?
Earlier today, a court official said there was ‘a lack of evidence’ and that the possibility of the case not proceeding was very likely.

However, come 1pm, further investigations revealed that there was enough substantial evidence to proceed.

Would help also to be a white person... evidently they dont mistake those for monkeys?
So, is it equally easy to see a dark skinned person in a tree VS a light skinned person? Or from a distance on the road even.
The problem here is simple. Don't shoot until you know what you're shooting. In both the last two incidents (the warthog and monkey incident), the mistake was non-confirmation and rather assumption.
The racist angle is politically motivated to stir and you're eating up every word they dish out.

You guys are talking about things I would like to have link's too.

Who got these sentences. I tend not to read the news these days. So grim and Zuma isn't going to change or go anywhere....

Huh? This is simple, "can't do the time, don't do the crime". You know the concept, right? I get the idea that most people are under the impression that most people get to walk away, which is not the case. Our prisons are already chock-a-block.

Google, many links in the results.

Myeza was informed that, should the matter proceed to trial, he could face a minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment.

If you need any further help with reading I'm sure someone here can help. I can't be bothered going forward.

Normally these things are said as: "maximum of 15 years" not minimum 5 years.

I Think. He would have gotten a bigger punishment because race would have been dragged into it, as seen in this thread.

IMO It was an accident ( Until someone comes forward saying the crazy old dude was threatening to shoot the kids who stole his guavas.. Sounds dirty :D )
But with allegations and the EFF shouting at the court's doors that it was a hate crime I do not think a this guy if he was white would have gotten the same treatment.

But IF you have articles to show me I'm wrong, I like to be shown to be negative.

Thanks, with the provided context, I do agree with you.

What I mean is R13 Said white farmers got of easy, you said it was a generalization.

I would like to know why both of you said what you did.

I know everybody pays in the end.
You guys just suggested that the punishment was diffrent for farmers.

O well.

Was just a question about what you were discussing.

Perfect example of Coulter's law:

The later they release a suspect's identity, the more likely they are not to be white.

Where, I never suggested as such? I simply highlighted that circumstances may be better represented and that money does not always dictate the outcome.

If you wanted to say: Excuse me, now I'm curious... you did it wrong :D

Google translate will mess you up if you rely on it to translate a language spoken in a country you call yours!

I think specifying a minimum sentence is more ominous. It means he can't get less than that, with the upper bound open up to what's allowed for murder. If they'd said a max of 15 years it would imply he can get anything from zero to 15 years while what you're saying is he can get a min of 5 and some unknown max (within what the law allows). How hard is that to comprehend?
