I received a couple of these as a birthday gift, has anyone used them, what results did you get?

Any recipes ideas?

I saw a similar thing in Woolies and was amazed at how expensive they are.

Personally, I'm not convinced they do a better job of smoking than smoke chips, which are much cheaper. I haven't tried braai planks yet, but for the money, they dont seem worth it.

But, now that you have got them...

I personally dont like the idea presented in the links posted above. I think if you placed your food directly above the braai plank, the plank is going to absorb too much. I would feed the plank into the fire slowly, and put the meat on the grill.

Use indirect cooking - try it with a chicken first. Soak in water or wine beforehand, for at least an hour. Helps it burn more slowly and produce more smoke.

Once you have got smoked chicken working nicely for you, you can try something like smoked pork shoulder, my personal favourite.

EDIT: R40 each at Woolies.

lol Gimmick .I just toss a moist log on the fire before i put the meat on to create some nice smoke.Witdoring is my fav wood.

And fast foods...
