Brake pad modification

How old? Neither my brothers '04 9n Polo nor my '05 9n Polo could be done by hand. My '82 MkI has drums at the rear and pushing the front pistons back is probably possible by hand but I always use a clamp of sorts. Replacing discs and pads on my Touareg is a whole other kettle of fish with the ebrake.

One of the most dirtiest as well  You just have to be logical about it.

It helps to have the right tools as well.

I need to get myself a caliper compression tool (to return the caliper to its original position) in order to enable the insertion of newer pads. Will be worth the money spent.

a G clamp works perfectly for this.

Luxury! New pads fitted, everything fitted together like a dream and without any fussing. Or modifications.

Right-hand side inner pad was also skew and was starting to rub on the disc. Backyard mechanic se moer.

So we should be good for a couple of km's.

Just a long strong screwdriver is all you need! Just don't squeeze back too quickly if you do not want to push brake fluid out of the filler cap!

All the tools you need are:
A long strong screwdriver.
A piece of wire to support and hold the calliper up while working on it.
The correct spanner /socket to remove the bolt holding the calliper in place.
10 minutes per wheel maximum.

Never needed anything else.

yep, and on my bike a pair of water pump pliers does the trick just as easily

With a g clamp you don't even open the brake fluid cap

You don't have to push the pistons in completely either. Just far enough to insert and seat the new pad properly.

SuperQuick charged me 1700 to get new brake pads and to install it.
They don't know that I bought a pair already, I just wanted to see if they are going to try and rip me off like Toyota.

Anyway, they are charging R450 to install it, I told them that I am going to buy the pads elsewhere.
