Brandy lovers thread

Haven't opened it yet :o

I've tried it, and I am by no means any expert. My expertise lie with in what goes with Richelieu, Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale.

I must say, I didn't like it too much, but then again, I don't think any kind of neat brandy will hit my fancy. Look, I compared it to the normal Richelieu neat, and normal Richelieu neat was just horrible. I'd choose the 10yo any day of the week over the stock one.

Just interested to find out what someone with a little knowledge's opinion would be.

I can relate to that, bought two of those Van Rhyn 10 year old on special last year and P'n'P liquor and it is not that amazing neat or on the rocks. Same thing can be said for Flight of the Fish Beagle and a couple of other up market brandys. The best one unmixed for me is Van Rhyn's low end Viceroy, anything else is mix stuff. Got a fancy Klipdrift Premium a while ago, still in box, will try it out sometime and see if it's any good.

My preferred drink to mix brandy with is Pepsi Max.

Hey, what do you guys think of this Napoleon Brandy that Checkers and PnP is stocking. Apparently it's produced and bottled in France. And it's supposedly a real grape brandy. I tried it and it wasn't bad.

It's crap but I love the stuff. Not sure why but it hits some taste buds just right.

I think I must buy a second bottle to be sure. Sometimes a third or forth bottle is needed to make up my mind. But I must agree, something is nice about it.

English: See you there!
Afrikaans: Ons drink mekaar erens raak! :P

It was awesome! Really enjoyed tasting a few I haven't had yet including:

KWV 15 year old (and I thought their 10 year old was good :p )
Oude Meester Sovereign18 year old (yummo)
Richelieu 10 year (is OK)

Van ryn 15y was a winner. I tastes the KWV 15y a while back and it wasn't as great

KWV 15y Blend changed last Year (2012). It was just awarded Trophy winner and best brandy in the world at the International Spirit Challenge (ISC)

Neat or sometimes with ice. Bit of a sin to water down the good stuff though hehe.

I follow this rule with whiskey, but till recently when it came to brandy I normally did as pooky did...

I like brandy, but I buy the cheapest and mix it with coke.

but never again, once you taste a really good brandy, the cheap stuff and coke just will never do it for you again. :D

Yes! Saw that. Tasted it at the Brandy Festival this year and I was OMW :p. No surprise that it won.

Can't believe the prices on brandy lately. Looked at 10 year old KWV last weekend at 3 different places. From R139 (on special at Makro) to R179 at PnP liquor :(

Had no "cheap" brandy to use with a mix, so I cracked open one of my Van Ryn's 10 year old bottles ... cause that's the way I roll :D

I've been pleasantly surprised by the oude meester demant. Not too pricey and really good.

Blauklippen 8yr is my current favourite.

Well done to KWV for again awarded with the best brandy in the world with their KWV 15y Alembic. What a superb brandy but alas a bit pricey at R500 a bottle. I do hear that KWV is bringing out a 30 and 50 year old brandy, is this just rumor or is there any truth to it?
