Bread Maker - I bought one for Banting Breads, amazing!!

Off to takealot then.
Any brand that you would recommend?

The Panasonics are good, but quite happy with this cheapo for only R1019.00 with a 2 year warranty.

To answer your other questions - yeah, I just throw in the ingredients, I think they recommend an order but meh, it doesn't appear to make a difference and then it goes through a mixing, resting, kneading cycle and then finally bakes - the whole process is about 3 hours. You actually dont have to do anything though I find it doesnt brown the top the best so if you want it browned all over then just brush it with some egg in the last 20 minutes during the baking process.

Busy baking a banting bread now, my wifes *** rescue dog stole a whole loaf this morning:( lucky I dont use xylitol or the dog would be dead...

It does if you're going to use the timer. You need to keep the yeast separated from the sugar/water in that case otherwise it activates too early.

EDIT: typically the ingredients should be loaded in the order they appear in the recipe.

Are the banting breads that you guys make actually soft? The banting loaves from Checkers is like a brick.

Also, I hate the taste of egg. Can you taste it in your banting bread?

The banting breads from Woolies are not too bad, but at R70 a loaf it will make you choke on it!

Nah, doesn't appear to make a difference on this model, all the ingredients get chucked in the container and it bakes as per the setting type you choose, it has different settings for the types of bread - no timer, you preset your type, loaf size and colour.
I have baked both banting and standard breads and they come out fantastic regardless of the order.
My domestic bakes her own bread now, she doesnt want store bought any more.

Sucks not having a timer - there's nothing putting in the ingredients before bed and waking up to a warm freshly baked loaf. :o

Yean its a lot softer than that brown brick checkers sell.
I can't taste egg, but my taste buds have been killed by hot sauces, just use less or no eggs, substitute with psyllium husk or xanthan gum to help bind the loaf better.
I tried a recipe without eggs, it come out a tad too soft in the middle, felt under cooked I suppose with trial and error you could perfect a recipe, maybe a longer baking type.

nah, it has that option, i thought you meant to time the putting in of certain ingredients.
I don't use that timer it doesnt suit banting breads.

nah, it has that option

So that's a timer, right?

When you use that you really want to keep the yeast away from the salt/sugar/water until the machine starts doing it's thing.

Yes, as I said, I thought you meant something else, so yes it has an option, they call it a delay function, so you can preset it so it will bake up to 13 hours later.
According to the manual you add liquids first, then dry, then yeast, I just throw it all in and it bakes A ok :D

I have the Russell Hobbs one.
I must admit the taste is out of this world, not like this commercial cr@p with added ingredients to keep it fresh longer, etc.
It basically takes me back to the seventies when we were on holiday, as you go into Margate, there was a bakery and we used to stop there and get the bread while it was still hot. :D

Just made this with the help of the bread machine - you select the dough setting and then it does the mixing and kneading and resting and what not, no mess or flour over your hands and half the house - you pull out your dough, make snake thingies and twist them and then bake it in your standard oven.

The smells in the house at the moment.................
