The problem is that one day the OP will walk past somebody in the street wearing one of these, and he's going to feel like a cheapskate:

Apparently that's the A. Lange & Söhne Grand Complication, going for a cool 1.92 million euros.

Personally, I'd rather just buy the moon.

I doubt that any of us would ever be in the vicinity of somebody wearing that. Especially not "in the street".

Well, in all seriousness it's the same principle that's putting me off buying any new car at the moment. Sure you're all big and mean in your BMW 3 Series ... right up until the guy in the 5 Series pull up alongside you ... and the 6 Series owner pulls up alongside you both ... and a 7 Series owner then has his chauffeur roll down the window for a laugh, and ...you get the point.

Buy a product because it is exceptionally well made, sure. But as soon as you start buying something because it'll make you special, think again. Rather buy a dog.

Sorry to burst your bubble OP but... this ^^

But you don't know why he bought the watch. Some people like to spend R1600 on finger foods and some people like to spend R60000 on watches. To each his own.

The difference being that when I go to eat R1600 finger foods, I don't walk around with the receipt taped to my wrist so everybody can know I did it ;)

I went from a 5 to a 3. Now I just assume you're older if you have a 5. Quite a few colleagues have 5s but they are all at least 40+. If you have a 7 I'll assume you're crazy rich to afford the depreciation on that. If you have a 6, especially 640d, 650i or M6 GC then I'll be jealous

Post of the week! ☺

Questioning the OP on his purchase choice is pointless, its the same principle I have seen with some of the poorer people in the drink section at pick n pay. They think you are crazy for paying R15 for 1.5 litres of ceres orange juice when you can pay R30 for an Oros 2 litre bottle to make 8 litres of juice

ttiuwp.... so here's a picture of the OP's watch.
Looked a bit like a fossil to me from far, now looks more like a tag heuer.

Hardly.

To me personally it's about practicality. I'm extremely happy for the OP as it seems watches makes him happy and he can afford to pay that for a watch. I personally just can't see myself wearing an R 80k watch or driving a R 500k car. That's just me. Nothing wrong with it :p

I could if it was a tiny fraction of my disposable income.

;)

People pay the same if not more for jewelry that merely blings up the body. A watch at least is a functional piece of jewelry.

Good on you OP. I am breaking the 10th commandment for your timepiece.
