Breitling

Hey, each unto themselves. Do whatever makes you happy but i would sooner pluck my eyeballs from their sockets than pay so much for a watch. Honestly if I managed to clock R50 mil in investments maybe I would consider a notion so atrocious, but otherwise I personally find this a ludicrous waste of perfectly good money. It is nice to play "millionaire millionaire" from time to time but it seems like my messing around with money is on a far less grand scale than OPs.

I went from a 5 to a 3. Now I just assume you're older if you have a 5. Quite a few colleagues have 5s but they are all at least 40+. If you have a 7 I'll assume you're crazy rich to afford the depreciation on that. If you have a 6, especially 640d, 650i or M6 GC then I'll be jealous

Off topic, but I had an A8, sold it and bought a Kia Picanto and a campervan. Lifestyle change, but for the best

Hehe.. ok, it's hardly the world's most coveted item, certainly not in the Breitling price category but for what it's worth:

I know some people collect them. I just like my one, it's rock solid and I think it looks great. I really don't have any need for another watch for several years.

Intrigued by the Apple watch but don't see myself gong for version 1.

If I can find an Apple watch in the U.S. Next week I'll get one, although I know early adopters don't get the "best" version

Creepy similarity to this:

...they call it a 'homage'.

Had it been made by any other brand it would be called a knock off. Seiko pull it off somehow.

Also: you have a newer Rolex in that pic, the bracelet is more modern - mine has the Jubilee bracelet which has even creepier resemblance to the Rolex of the same vintage. Actually - it's identical.

Why is it so scratched?

It lives on my arm. Never been in a box.

Not really a breitling fan, but am a fan of mechanical watches. (Don't give a crap about Quartz or smart watches)

I have an omega seamaster 2254.50 and a seiko sbdc003.

Most high end watches are completely not a waste of money. I wouldn't say they are great investments, unless you are buying rare, but something like a Rolex submariner can easily be bought now, and sold in years time, getting the enjoyment from it, and not losing any money (or at least minimal)

Watch the A Lange and son video on hodinkee, then you will appreciate why people enjoy these little "perpetual motion" machines

And the skx009 looks nothing like a Rolex gmt master. That's like saying a blue VW looks like a blue bmw, because they are both cars, and blue :p

Nice! Where did you get that Sumo? The thing that puts me off the Sumo are those long lugs.

Ah good old Seiya. How was the ordering experience? I'm thinking of getting a sarb 033 from him in the short to medium future and I've been looking at his site and Higuchi's.

/sorry for hijacking the thread op. Maybe make this a general WIS thread if we don't have one already.

Good life lesson, I know some people keeping these things in safes... they don't even ware them...

My old man has a Rolex (submariner) and he always makes the point that what's awesome about owning an object like that is not that it is a watch. The object has intrinsic monetary value, anywhere on the planet.

Should you find yourself stranded somewhere, you can easily trade a Rolex for an airplane ticket to anywhere, for instance.

That scenario aint' gonna play out like that if the thing is in a safe at home.

The ordering was super simple. The crappy part was that I ordered it in the middle of the postal strike, so it took quite a while to actually receive it.

Great advice, never thought of it that way.

Lets hope all watch collectors keeps theirs for years to come,

Interesting!

Mine is not the one in the pic, but is virtually identical. I'm not sure when the bracelet came out, but my watch is early 80s.

My Dad says the same thing. Easier going overseas with 50k on your wrist than in your bag.

One day someone will invent a more convenient method of payment. Some type of card perhaps that fits in a wallet.

Well considering bank charges depositing\converting etc money that you might not need to use. And I did not mean buy a watch to sell I just meant having a watch you have in case you want cash.
