sigh... my own stupidity. phone is now stuck saying ...

"firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"

Kies doesnt pick up the device, so thats not really an option.

what now? do I need to throw it away?

Edit: I was trying to install this CWM so I could install the the latest Omega JB custom rom. I guess I did something wrong in Odin, and it came up with a FAILED in red in the block at the top, and now I cant even get into recovery mode.

You say it was your own mistake but please share the mistake you made so others can avoid doing so. Thanks.

If the device still boots then it can be rescued. I do not have experience with the S2, so others will be able to help more than I, just steering the discussion into the direction of a possible fix...

If you can get into fastboot on the S2 you can pretty much recover from any brick, I'll leave it to others to comment how it is done.

found this : http://www.galaxyforums.net/forum/g...re-upgrade-encountered-issue-2.html#post90361

if I hold the power button, home and down-volume I can pickup the phone is Odin... is that gonna help?

ok well I guess most people arent online right now... Will have to sit tight :(

If the phone is "bricked", what more can possibly go wrong if you press the three buttons together? Just do it and see if your phone gets to download mode again.

Geez, do you still ask your mother if you can go to the toilet?

gees dude... If you read carefully what I wrote, I said that I can pick it up in Odin...

yoh...

Your phone is not bricked. Boot into Odin, flash CWM and Problem Solved. Easy Squeezy

thank you for the help, busy trying to do that now. perhaps someone has a good guide on how to flash that CWM? Cause that is where I went wrong... :(

Im really just trying to get the latest Omega on my phone, but proving tricky for me as Im noob

apologies

if u can get into download mode try to get into recovery mode using the volume up+ home+ power if u get into it try this just flash clockwork recovery

seems I got sorted thank you. I followed thank link and installed those three files. Weird that when I restart my phone, and go back into recovery mode its like it hasnt saved the CWM install. I have to go into the ZIP each time. Am I doing something wrong?

even though its not seeing the external-storage (where the ROM is saved), so thats another issue altogether it would appear.

At least my phone is back... Sorry if I panicked a bit :o

:D

which version of android software are u on currently? ginger jb or ics?

From your other reply in the S2 thread:
ok, so I screwed up my phone again this morning... (and this time I definitely followed the instructions to what I was doing 100%) see thread from yesterday here

Im following this video here, to try and get CWM installed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vW7W4Mj-Js Infortunately when I try that, Odin says failed and then Im back to a phone that needs to be fixed again.

I have verified that the phone has root access, so Im a little confused as to why this process is crashing.

I figured that maybe what I was trying to do was an issue because I didnt have root. So I followed this I guess that sorted the root, but when I go into Recovery mode it still has the default and not the CWM. Thats not right?

Forget that video, just follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505172

In summary:
Make sure you have Odin installed and it recognises the phone.

Go to Settings-> About Phone and look for you kernel version. Mine ATM is 3.0.15-19100DXLP7-CL233393.
The bold part is important - LP7 in my case.

Go to this page and look for a kernel that has the same version as yours:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

In my case there are two:
CF-Root-SGS2_DX_XTC_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip

I could choose either one, does not matter. Once you have found your kernel, extract the file until there is only a zImage file (it is packaged twice).

Put the phone in "download mode". Switch off phone. Hold volume down and home button, press power on and keep all buttons depressed. You will get a warning that you are entering "Download mode", just follow the steps to continue using this mode.

Now simply connect your phone to USB and use Odin to flash the zImage. Once done the phone will reboot and you will know that it worked since you will get a yellow warning triangle while the phone powers on.

That is it, you are now rooted and CWM recovery is now installed.

Update the SuperSU software and reboot.

To get into CWM recovery you can either use volume up+home+power or enter the CWM app and choose to reboot into CWM recovery.

Now you are ready to install a ROM.

If you have time, read the threads that I posted, it is a bit time consuming but you will never learn unless you educate yourself, and you will have a better understanding of your phone in general.

Looks like I have LP7 as well. Im going through all you have written, and working through it slowly :)

The SO is here so making it tricky ;)

ok, I have followed what you have said. I have flashed the kernel, and updated superSU and restarted. everything is working, and I can get into CWM no problem... AND its seeing my sdcard. wow, thanks man... that was great.

I would like to do a complete wipe of my phone before I flash Omega.

What do you recommend as the process for that?

From the Omega page on XDA:
Full Wipe Install means:
- Wipe Data / Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
- Format System partition
- Install

You should be able to do this from within CWM recovery

You can also just start installing Omega, during installation you can choose to do a full wipe and everything is automated.
