Bridging two networks

Hi all,

I've been contemplating wirelessly bridging my friend's network with mine for some time now, but there's a few things I'm concerned about:

1. We both have separate internet access - is that possible?
2. Our routers aren't in LOS however there is direct LOS from my room to his, and I could purchase/build two yagi antennas. Would we both then require a PC on either end?
3. What hardware would I require? I already have 2 wireless adaptors, and an ubuntu box with multiple NIC's.

The purpose of this is mainly for gaming. I could go as far as describing what I want as a small-time WUG :)

Any help will be appreciated!

Its pretty easy.
What sort of distances are you looking at?
If its fairly short, in the order of a few 100 meters, them you can just get a pair of Ubiquity Picostations. They have built in antennas, so just aim them in the right direction. Then all you do is plug the ethernet cable into your PCs, and you're done.
Seperate internet connections isn't a problem.

Uniterm Direct are suppliers of Ubiquity gear (www.dbg.co.za)

Hey man, thanks for the reply. The distance is probably +- 80m so that's all good. I will have a look into the Ubiquiti option - however it seems a little too pricey for me.

80m.
Dig a trench and lay FTP cable inside some conduit, nothing beats the stability of cable, nothing.

For that kind of distance, try setting up an ad-hoc network using your Wireless NICs.
Even just sitting the machine in the window and see if you can scan each other. It might work.
If it does work, look at getting some antennas on the end of some coax cable so you dont need to have the PC on the windowsill...

lol @ ^ but thanks guys :) I think laying ahem ftp cable :D might bother the houses between us, I'm going to try the two wireless NIC's for now and see where that takes me.
