Britain pledges public access to tax evasion-busting database

Total BS.

Tax avoidance (as practised by Google / Microsoft / etc.) is not illegal.

The companies are all following the rules that were written by the government. The fact that the companies are now paying less tax just means one thing: the government cocked up :)

And said government is now embarrassed ...

It makes sense that these companies legally avoid tax. Google makes billions each year. It would make sense to spend a couple of million to hire some very clever people to reduce the tax bill from 40% to 2% - all done legally.

The tax regulations & rules of most countries are so much and so complicated that there will always be loopholes or something to exploit.
