Always thought it was more of a arikaans thing they got from the malays.

Souskluitjies is Afrikaans I think. Used to love it as a kid. Yum. Not sure if it has a Malay influence, but would not be surprised.

Chewy custard with burnt fruit mince pudding, all luke-warm. You can get Guinness locally so that lends an air of authenticity
