Yes, I'm slightly crazy about the old grouch and the townfolk and the scenery myself. I read somewhere that Martin Clunes had said he enjoyed "terrorising that horrible, horrible man," or something to that effect, but I actually can't help feeling sorry for the character, and Clunes' acting on those rare occasions when the Doc is trying his utmost to express empathy or happiness is simply sublime.

Hmm... first few seasons were mostly about the caddy who was a guy. This one is fairly unique in that it seems we might actually come to a conclusion by the end of the season. I HOPE.
