Broadband junkies watch less TV

Not surprising really!

When you're connected all the time, there are many more things you can do which are fun (IM'ming, online gaming etc) and they are much more addictive (like this forum :D). Also the decline in quality TV-shows can only be blamed on the broadcasters themselves.

Agreed - I don't actually bother to watch any TV any more, with the exception of the occaisional film.

My TV is running all day long, but only if I am really interested I watch. Otherwise I have my monitor before my nose...:D

Well I've actually started watching more TV shows, just not on the TV. It's a question of convenience, being able to watch what I want when I want to.

For me its a case of television feeds me what they want when they want to, broadband I feed myself what I want when I want..

..even if most of it is pr0n ;)

I think the trend these days is to have the tv on whilst doing stuff online, as opposed to the past when it had our undivided attention.

I don't even have a TV anymore! Got rid of it in the Netherlands when I still had broadband over the TV cable... After getting back, I stayed with dail-up, since I refuse to pay the prices for ADSL with the service level as it is, but I still don't miss any TV! When I get to watch at friends, it bores me, and I wish to be back behind the monitor!!! So, yeah, the report is quite accurate!

He he he he he he!

Bring TV through a fat pipe to my desktop and maybe I will watch more.... while surfing...

:D

Just don't let the DOC hear of this because our dear minister will probably think "Oh no! That will kill SABC viewing! BAN BROADBAND!!!"

Well with ADSL technology developing the way it is (im not talking about SA technology here), watching TV using broadband is possible. Now give us a few more years... :-/

MY isp freedom2surf is offering about 24mbit:eek: services for IP-tv, what does this mean.
24mbit is a bit too excessive.

TV is a mind numbing drone, to be avoided at all costs.
Broadband however is for forward thinkers who refuse to be lulled and brainwashed.
We are people that qeustion the status quo continually, wether its adsl, or connectivity or torrents or pr0N.
Me myself only use the goggle box to watch movies, and sometimes the news.
I cut DSTV coz its junk.
Nobody watches soaps anymore, well maybe one or two.
:)
My daughter prefers the challenge of trivia to the crud from sabc.
My youngest son never watches, only when theres a dvd worth watching.
It has beacome a thing of the past, and i dont think streamimg tv or any other offering will ever coax them back.
I think we are all as a nation moving away from the passivity to more interactive stuff.
We read the news we want to read and leave the rest, I use google alerts to make sure i get informed on what i want.

We are tired of the drones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know - I remember years ago when I got it, I tried my PC on it and it wouldn't work, so now I am using it as a pedastal: TV has been great for me ...

does downloading tv shows count as watching TV?

So long as you don't watch it on a TV. :)

I guess it's only considered TV if :-

a.) 95% of it ****
b.) There's a lot of **** adverts
c.) You get to watch **** TV stations advertising themselves

TV has become drivel in this country, it's so abysmal it doesn't even bear thinking about, let alone watching.

I'm thankful that I managed to wean myself off TV because it's mostly a pointless exercise - you end up mindlessly watching **** while waiting for something that isn't quite as **** to come on. When the stuff that isn't quite as **** as the usual **** comes on, it gets interrupted by **** adverts.

The less **** the program is, the more **** you have to watch inbetween.

I'd rather spend R500 a month on DVD rentals than DSTV - that way, I get to watch what I want when I want to and can avoid ****.

If I can't find what I want in video shops, I can download it ;)

Remember, lots of people still watch TV because:

* They can either not get/afford broadband,
* it's the cheaper form of entertainment.

But the report is right, I think that discerning viewers are moving away from the general TV programming. Think SciFi channel, etc. That disappeared. Guess what the biggest torrented item is in .za every Friday ?
