Care to share the simple formula? "Fair system" - sure if it is so fair you would not mind sharing. Curious.

Do yo mean to say that you could never be 100% sure that whoever coded the generator didn't somehow 'load the dice'?

No. I would say that all post numbers in the comp thread are entered into the draw and if a clone is randomly selected then there is a redraw.

I wonder how many false positives that creates. That should automatically disqualify anyone using a vpn, proxy or Tapatalk (IIRC it's server makes the request on behalf of the user)

Easy to say that when you're a previous benefactor. And for the record, I'm happy to forfeit any future 'random' competitions in saying that I'm not interesting in winning, I'm interested in transparency in a competition that doesn't indicate that it's anything but random but in truth it's selection is fairly frequent.
 
What I would also like to see (if it turns out the competitions are not that random) is some sort of karma system which gives people who positively contribute to this forum more of a chance to win.

Anyone remember how well the old Prophecy forum was run?

Presuming that there'd be some reason to manipulate anything, I can't imagine the site risking the guaranteed PR disaster it would be, by doing so. More-so, I would think that the competitions are also focussed on drawing in new members, so I can't imagine why they would select specific prolific members. To what end?

Humans tend to look for patterns, it's what we are built to do. More often than not there are people I've never heard of before winning stuff.

I'd like to think, also, that my attitude is one of rationality, not borne of having won a thing or two....

Well I'm sure rpm keeps a spreadsheet of who has won what over the years, it's easy enough to validate by searching this section for rpm's post with the winner's username.

MickeyD has at least earned most of his prizes thanks to "Forum member of the year" type competitions (as well as previous milestone total posts competitions)
