Broken Lappie - help!

Just because the light on the charger comes on doesnt mean that it's working.
See if you can get a multimeter and test the output.

Also you might just have to accept that it's truly broken (There is a reason why it was thrown away)

Haha. You make a good point. Tried a different charger and it did the same.

had see an hp before doing the exact same thing. i just stripped the parts and threw away the rest.
 
google HP laptop power cycle & try that also

*Take out the battery,
*Remove main supply,
*Hold power button down for 60 secs,
*Put only power supply in, do not put battery in
*Turn laptop on
*Put the battery in.

Something else to try
Well I have it up and running. I took the motherboard out and re-seated the CPU but it was to no avail. When I pressed the power button, the LED's flashed briefly then there was nothing(again). Again I took out the CPU and then pressed the power button with the CPU out. All of the LED's remained on until I removed the power. Once again I reinstalled the CPU and all the lights remained on when I gave it power. I reinstalled the RAM, HDD, and the screen. I turned it on and it booted.
