I went to Makro and bought a new TV that is on special, when I took it out of the box just now, I see that the screen is cracked and damaged in different places.
I tried calling their support line, but it seems no one is manning it.

I was obviously very careful with handling the box and the television.
Has anyone been in this situation before ?
This has me so depro :(

You may or may not be out of luck getting that replaced.. depends if they are going to give you the benefit of the doubt about you being careful with loading and unloading..

I was annoyed yesterday when I bought my TV and had to wait in line, so they can take my TV out of the box and switch it on in store to check for damage.. but, I understand why and if the TV had been damaged, I would have gotten a replacement immediately and wouldn't have to argue about not having damaged it..

Yeah, I wish my sales guy had done the same.

They always open the television box with you there in store, and check that there is no damage and that everything works before just giving you the box. Both Makro and Game did it when I bought two TV's recently, and two years or so again when I bought TV's for the office.

It's to protect them from such claims. Not sure how lucky you'll be returning it - no harm in trying.

what @WAslayer said
your tv might of been damaged in transit to the store, no one knows as most of the time it is sealed when you buy it.
when people buy a tv who knows how they pack it in car and how they drive? so most stores will turn you down.

Good Luck with Makro tomorrow morning, this is not a nice thing to happen :(

i bought my tv from Makro 36 months ago and no one checked, luckily i was OK, but i guess retailers and shoppers are learning the hard way :(

The box was not opened and the tv not tested, as far as I am aware.
Not in my presence anyway.

Hasty salesmen trying to get customers sorted so they can jump on the next customer as quickly as possible to get the commission.. I'm glad I bought yesterday morning as soon as dionwired open..

If you have Household Insurance then worse case scenario you claim from that.
A friend of mine did that many years ago, said to Insurance company the maid was cleaning the lounge and accidentally knocked the TV over :ROFL::laugh::ROFL:

Please do not do this, I am just saying what happened a long time ago :whistling::whistling:

Odd that they didn't - all stores do it;

Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act provides that consumers have the right to goods that are safe and of good quality except where the goods have been altered or modified in any manner contrary to the instructions, or after leaving the control of the producer, importer, distributor or retailer.

“This implied warranty is valid for a period of six months and is in addition to any other manufacturers warranty. If goods are defective due to no fault of the consumer, the consumer can choose whether they want a “refund, repair or replacement.”

In this case, the supplier relied on the fact that the TV was checked in-store and the defect occurred after the TV left the supplier’s control, CGSO said.

The group said it ultimately had no option to close the case and advise the consumer to refer the complaint to the National Consumer Commission.

You'll have to fight it with Makro. Ask to see the CCTV footage of you receiving (and staff not checking) the TV before the sale. If you can prove it wasn't damaged by you, you can try fight the case.

Why lie? Just tell the truth....bloody ridiculous

I've put everything back in the box.
I've sent a mail to Makro's support address.

What's my best course of action here? Take it back to the store tomorrow morning ?

If the salesman was too hasty, then they must replace the TV.

Hopefully OP can get access to the CCTV footage and prove his case.

It's damaged item issue - not a manufacturing defect, so you'll have to deal with Makro - not Hisense.
Yeah, I know, I'm hoping they might have had some other customers with the issue, that Hisense are aware of.

Hirsch did this for me - showed the screen and power on before taking it..

Take it back tomorrow morning, and ask for the manager. Explain your situation, and say that you are willing to prove your case by going through the CCTV footage to show that the salesman did not check the TV with you.

Easiest way to prove their fault. Their stores are riddled with cameras.

I'd go back

Bad luck that it will be the busiest day of the year there
