I have this clients pc and cleaning this worm of with special tools.WHat is strange is that i am running in safemode and system restore is off,Also ran hijack this and SB search and destroy.I have cleaned the pc but i am having a weird problem which is that the one removal tool find the brontok and deletes it.WIthout a restart i run the tool again and it finds the brontok is the same locations again.:(

I then run ascan again in safe mode and clean everything,disable start run ,services..you know the usual and restart.
I run clam/avg/antivir..etc and no virus found..All good...now i run this tool and it again find the virus in the same location.

THe program is called compactbyteav......I see the warning that this program says the database is 30days out...I know all variants of this worm started in 2005 i think,SO could there be a new strain floating around which all the latest updates of AV not detecting it:eek:

Advice need please...and remember i am stupid but not dumb:D
 
Reinstall. Sounds like you're spending more time playing hide and seek than you would simply by reinstalling.
 
I cant reinstall the OS.I would like to but you know when she the client is adamant .AFAIK the pc is clean,and i mean really clean even after a restart.Just that damn program.
 
Having the same damn problem. I ended up having to scan the computer memory a few times in safe mode. That seemed to end any versions of the virus and then the files seem to be deleted.

But I am not using compactbyteav though...
 
How many times must i still scan,I mean i did 3 safemode scans and edited the registry and deleted lines in hijack this.
I think some thing is triggering this reinfection and i think the tool i downloaded .exe is infected,HOly **** i forgot to scan the tool..naa i uses avg to scan it and its clean.SO one last sweep with all 7 tools and thats it...lady where is my money:D
 
take the hdd out from the pc, put it in anaother pc and run the scan.
 
compactbyteav is an indonesian antivirus - sounds bit risque to me
 
There is a version of brontok floating around on the network at school sigh! I've been talk to to the IT admins and they are absolutely rubbish. I can exactly fix the problem as I don't have sufficent permissions to do anything. I've tried the Clamwin on a usb stick, but after cleaning it, the virus just comes back..so frustrating. Tommorrow I think I am gonna just boot off a Linux cd WHAHAHA!
