Bruno Vs Tyson

This documentary plots the rise and fall of both fighters in both their boxing and personal lives and culminates with the two meeting up for the first time in decades to reflect on their entwined boxing journeys and reflect on their lives and careers.

Sounds cool...

I never got to understand the type of a fighter Bruno was, was he really ever tested against the best?

The only boxers to beat him were world champions or world champions-to-be; Bonecrusher Smith, Tim Witherspoon, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson. He also fought all of them when they were in their prime.

In the fights against Bonecrusher, Witherspoon and Lewis, he was ahead on points when they KO'd him. He was toe-to-toe and exchanging heavy blows with prime Tyson before Tyson took his legs away.

His downfall was his stamina and he tended to freeze when hurt. The Bonecrusher fight was a great example, as he was comfortably ahead on points heading in to the final round until Bonecrusher hurt him, then he froze up and got KO'd. If you could take Bruno past half distance you stood a good chance of beating him, the trouble was surviving that long with him because he was a devastating puncher, KO'ing 38 of his 45 opponents. Only 7 of his 45 opponents made it past 5 rounds with him.

The thing about Bruno is he was enormous but what really made him popular was his cockney attitude and gentlemen's heart.
He broke our hearts when he knocked Gerrie Coetzee out... to be fair, Coetzee probably had little chance in that bout.

Would someone know why our heavyweights boxers always look out of shape, I never rated Botha but I thought Corrie Sanders was a great boxer but also overweight.

Was it impossible for them to compete without the extra fat or what's the deal?

I really don't know.

Perhaps there was something to do with the lifestyle and training, or just not an emphasis on building muscle/adding weight to reach heavyweight as they were just naturally big men.
