Hi Guys.

So I'm looking at studying a Bsc in Computing or Computer Science. UNISA seems like a viable option, as it is affordable and I am currently working full time.

My question is: Are Unisa's computing qualifications any good? Are Unisa's Comp qualifications up to date and relevant?

I'm asking as IT and computing is growing so fast and changing so quickly.

Any help or guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, definitely worth it. If you can go to a non-correspondence university with a good name that would be better, but the course is still just fine and this far meets all the requirements to give you the correct NQF level and education.

I finished a BSc Informatics in 2017 and although there were some problems (out of date material, administration problems, etc) I am glad I did it. The underlying concepts were solid enough. I was already employed in the industry so I can't guarantee it will get you a job if you don't have experience but it will compliment your experience nicely (it checks that degree box). With the degree I have been interviewed at a few decent companies and was accepted at UCT to do Honours so it does hold enough weight.

I have registered for the CS course and I am still waiting for a reply...

You might have to look at one of the other universities and if they have an online option.

If you're able, study at another institution.
UNISA standards have really fallen.

I am doing computing there its very worth it firstly the math and computer science courses are very rigorous , demand tenacity , self discipline if you are easy to give up please dont come to Unisa. Unisa is a really good institution , teaches entrepreneurship to students , there are some few bad apples , indolent lecturers however Bsc Computing is quite a good degree. People talk crap of Unisa because they dont have the capacity to self teach themselves Unisa does not spoonfeed you like Wits and Uj and wont expel you if you fail modules they will ensure you are resilient and persist . Unisa is making students independent not like Wits and Uj so yes Unisa is a great institution for ICT
