I'm trying to help someone with a BSOD problem. The PC BSODs up to ten times a day, sometimes none. It can just be idling, or under heavy load. I have tried everything, here is the error:

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
*** STOP: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000005, 0xfffff960001ab848, 0xfffff8800506c540,
0x0000000000000000)
*** win32k.sys - Address 0xfffff960001ab848 base at 0xfffff960000e0000 DateStamp
0x4c1c483f

The PC spec:
Asus M2A MB
Athlon 4000+ x2
160GB Seagate SATA boot drive
Windows 7 Home Premium

Thanks!

A format (as mentioned) is always a good start.

I often believe dodgy RAM to be a fine culprit for bsod's, maybe swap it with some that you know works. But really, could be anything.

Just have to troubleshoot until it is fixed... Everyone (like myself) has their own opinions on these things :p

Thanks guys, this PC also did it on XP, it started its **** again the day after installing Win7. Have tried a new PSU, SATA cables, RAM.
Anyway I'm gonna flash the MB and reinstall Windows.

Usually drivers or ram. Viruses too maybe, if you used a flash drive or other portable media on both the xp and win7 install.
