BSOD Problems. (Relating to RAM or GPU?)

Hi all

I recently purchased and built a new PC from scratch, but I'm having a few BSODs (Blue Screen Of Deaths) every now and again.

At first, I thought it was the graphics card, but now I'm not too sure anymore. Last night I ran Memtest86 and ended up recieving an INSANE amount of errors (into the millions) - I didn't go past 27%. The RAM is brand new out the box - surely both sticks can't be corrupt? (I read somewhere that changing the RAM from Single to Dual Channel can change this?)

This morning I changed my RAM from Single to Dual Channel and upped the voltage by 1.00V. I'm going to run it again tonight and see if I get any more errors.

Has anyone had a similar experience to this? Any tips or advice welcome.

My Specs:
----
Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus Motherboard (Flashed with the latest BIOS from ASUS)
Intel Core2Duo 3.0Ghz (E6850)
2x 1GB OCZ Platinum Gaming Memory (DDR2-800MHz)
Gigabyte Geforce8400GS PCI-E
250GB Seagate HDD - SATAII
OCZ 600W PSU

Take one dimm out and run it on jus one, then switch, see what happens.

Sounds like the RAM might be corrupt, try what xrapidx said to find the culprit... You might have to RMA your RAM (I love saying that :D)

I would suggest you do as the previous two guys suggested. It has happened to me a few times where one DIMM is actually damaged.

yea or it could be your vga card overheating

also what is your cooling like, i know when i overclocked my e6300 i got bsod because my north bridge was overheating

Hmm. The RAM is brand new (out the box - which I threw away).

My CPU E6850 runs at between 30 to 45 Degrees Celcius and inside the casing (Internal temp) warms up to about the same. That's not too hot is it?

The BSODS I've encountered:
-----
IRQ_ NOT_LESS_THAN_ EQUAL
nvdisp4.dll

Very schweet PC btw lord_spaceman. Just checked it out on your blog.

That is the display driver in the BSOD.

I had the latest graphic drivers installed but that didn't solve the problem. I'm using the graphics drivers that came on the disc with the GPU. (The drivers seem to be from May 2007).

It might be a hardware problem and not software related. Do you have another PC in which you can try it?

Nope :(

I'm gonna try what xrapidx said when I get home. It seems this mobo has quite a few threads on various forums about similar RAM issues.

Problem solved!

Basically what I did was spend some time on the OCZ forums. It turns out that my motherboard is quite sensitive and you need to manually set the timings/voltage in the BIOS as per the specifications they gave - 4-4-4-15-2t @ 2.0V.

Initally I just had everything set to AUTO, but that didn't seem to work. One would think that because it's AUTO, it would AUTOmatically work, but I guess not.

Once I did that, Memtest86 ran without any errors and I no longer recieve BSODS in Windows or Games, yay! I so relived the RAM is not corrupted and that the GPU isn't as bad as I thought it was.
