Surely you can understand that if people are turning to guns to "protect" themselves, criminals will need to arm themselves more heavily in order to protect themselves, which in turn means yahoos feel the need to arm themselves even more heavily, and so the cycle repeats.

Based on what you say here, anything I do to protect myself will result in criminals matching and exceeding that. Does your logic also apply to the public arming themselves with non lethal weapons such as pepper guns, tazers, batons etc?

Criminals do not use their weapons to protect themselves, they use them to facilitate their crime and ensure it goes according to their plan. They also don’t care who get hurt as long as they get what they want.

Do you condone that?

It really is almost unbearable to read the absolute crap that spews forth from Grayston's fingers time after time after time.....
Hey...perhaps you make your living from crime, and would prefer less opposition. At least that makes sense, unlike the illogical reasons you spew forth.
As for me...I am honest when I say that firearms are my business, and have been for over 20 years. However unlike you, I don't have some hidden agenda. I really don't care if you buy one from me or not. I have enough busines selling to security companies that are tasked with protecting POLICE STATIONS and such. I also do damn well selling to people exactly like you who have suddenly changed their minds after seeing a loved one shot dead in front of them for no reason, or watching a daugher get raped.
Yes....I almost never see someone pro-responsible gun ownership change their minds, but I deal with the opposite daily.
Frankly, I prefer you don't even bother to answer. I fear we will never hear the truth about what you do or why you support criminals over victims.
My words go out to others who have a clue. People who are sick of reading about women shot dead in their cars while parked at a gas station (news today) or 87 year old pensioners killed for a few rands, or youngsters stabbed to death for a cellphone.

Those who are aware that the "gun will be used against you" statement is a fraud and lame twisted statistic. Those that know there are far more successful uses of a firearm to deter crime than ones where it is actually used. Those that know someone who is only alive because they had a gun. Like the brother in Laudium who is only alive because he carried his gun on him in his home, and shot the robber after they had shot dead his brother.

WTF does it take to convince some of you that humanity really isn't basically good? That criminals really DO shoot for no reason? That you don't have to resist to be shot..sometimes they do it because they enjoy it.

Did anyone read this thread? http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=187638
* Only 35% of robbers stole for basic needs (hunger, poverty), while 65% enjoyed the money and spent it on clothes, cars, etc.
* The average robber commits 103 robberies over seven years before being caught.
* A staggering 97% of all robbers are armed and on average there are four members in an armed robbery gang.
* Women are more often tortured or hurt during house robberies.
If you want a gun, go buy one. Do the training, and get your competency certificate. Then purchase the gun, and apply at your local DFO for a licence and competency certificate. They will interview your wife/gf/family/friends and do a safe inspection.
Then you wait anything from 4-12 months for the licence and the n go fetch your gun. Then please practice with it regularly! It is not dangerous. Your car is dangerous. It is a tool. Know how to use it, and especially when to use it. And if you need to, then do.
I promise you that you have far more chance of being succesful than having it used against you. In fact, the anti's have only a few over-used cases to endlessly repeat, as it really doesn't happen very often.

And if you aren't into guns, that is your choice. I bet I see you in my shop oneday anyways, but I really hope I don't. By all means investigate non-lethal self defence options, but know that they are really for minor incidents. Do not use them in a deadly force situation. Spray me with 10% OC, and I am still going to stab or shoot you. But in many situations, far better than nothing.

There is a new 2 shot non-lethal pistol that will be available in about 2 weeks, that is the best out there. But no further details on it, as I am involved and will not self-promote.

In the end, make up your own mind, but know that there is an awful lot of rubbish info out there, and you have to decide what is true and what isn't. I can prove my side, if anyone needs clarification then pm me. I am not going to dance this merry little circle with morons like the afore-mentioned.

as for Grayston'she is either an extreme liberal or just been argumentative for the sake of it.

He never seems to offer any plausible solutions either

You also dont put yourself across very well and I think the term you are looking for is debate although you do tend to argue most of the time

Gosh, wot are you smoking?

The question really was:

HTML:
hey guys, i am wandering where i can buy a gun legally for protecting my own family. which kind of paper i have to forwards?
please help me out !
thanks

With the odd exception Anen did not get any advise, four pages later!

So you've been to a gun shop? Good choice ... as oppose to a taxi rank or some pusher lol

The gun shop may or may not offer the necessary training in-house. If they don't, i) ask who they would recommend, ii) go to your local police station (the one with a DFO) and ask who they would recommend, iii) there might be leaflets lying around at the DFO, or iv) open the SAGA page and download the file under "SAPS Accredited ..." .

You will need to do the extended training course ie both practical and theoretical. After being tested and once you've received your Proficiency Certificate from the Accredited Training Provider, you can start preparing your application.

Determine your SAPS station with a DFO (Designated Firearm Officer) as not all Police stations can handle firearm applications. Obtain the necessary forms (SAPS 271). Observe special conditions (which tend to vary somewhat from station to station) ie use a good quality black pen, number of photos to bring along (colour or black & white), etc.

This will keep you busy for now. Once you've done that, let me know. Or you may read this.
