The ruling party was "extremely concerned" about reports that the Hawks sent questions to Gordhan four days before his budget speech about his knowledge of a rogue unit at the SA Revenue Services.
If I wanted to drink something that tastes like piss, I'd drink my own for free.
You mean, it already has.
Its a battle in a war within the ANC. Whoever wins it and gets the other side to back down will the faction to beat come 2017. Lethuli House, or at the very least Mantashe, seem to be in the Gordhan corner for now after this statement

I know what the battle entails internally for the ANC...
but the fact that its playing out, when the "starting" public gambit nearly economically screwed this country, and these fscking retards are intending on continuing it regardless of the economic impact tells me they all need a running-kick-fsck-slap for being so bloody stupid.
Unfortunately, when a power vacuum looms, power battles are going to be messy. Look at pre Polokwane 2007. Its going to be a bumpy year till that elective conference in 2017
Tensions in the ruling party surrounding hostilities between Finance Minster Pravin Gordhan and SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane, who is believed to be close to President Jacob Zuma, have spilled out into the open with ANC Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe, issuing a statement that the ANC unequivocally supported the Minister of Finance.
Mantashe's statement comes in the wake of what appears to be a campaign by the Hawks to target senior former SARS officials including Deputy Commissioner Ivan Pillay and group executive Johan van Loggerenberg as well as Gordhan, who was SARS commissioner at the time.

I wonder how long before Pravin is fired.
Hawks tried to sabotage Gordhan, says Mantashe
Tom Moyane’s defiance is unacceptable, says Pravin Gordhan
Moyane must go or I go, says Gordhan
Moyane is Zuma's comrade.
He has the backing of the ANC though, which suggests (by implication of Moyane being Zuma's guy) that Zuma doesn't...

Zuma days are numbered...Dead Man walking....Mantashe was spotted at SARS Head Office today, Moyane being told to stop playing leaky leaky not so deep throat, with the press...For Mantashe to come out and support Uncle Pravin, there is clearly a new faction in the ascendancy. JZ is going to become more and more isolated, as his power base starts crumbling and changing their tunes. Like Max Du Preez stated..." if President Jacob Zuma thought 2015 was tough, 2016 holds a lot more and is going to be his annus maximus horribilis." ...and downfall!

Investors already consider South Africa more risky than some junk-rated countries. The cost of insuring against a default by the government for five years using credit-default swaps is 38 basis points higher than for Russia, which is rated speculative grade by both S&P and Moody’s, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The only major emerging market with contracts more expensive than South Africa is Brazil, which is in the worst recession in a century and where President Dilma Rousseff is facing impeachment.
