Budget 2018

At least they're spreading out the pain a bit this go round.

id agree if they increased my tax by a minimal amount but they havent....its just painful. and now everything will go up. ****ing everything.

WTF.. 55c/l fuel tax. Are they Fcking kidding

Don't worry we are getting a 30c decrease in petrol price... Which is how it is spun, though a good chunk of our petrol price is bloody tax.

This is going to sound very mean but at least this time the poor are feeling it too. Previously, all that happened was that income tax for the middle and upper class increased.

Now this budget affects EVERYBODY in a negative way.

EDIT: To be more clear, this will cost the ANC votes. Their biggest source of votes are poor people from rural areas. Now these people have less money every month.

1% extra VAT means a lot more to poor rural people than it does to me or you, so hopefully the poor people will finally get tired of the ANC.

I just wish some one could do subtitles for the Budget 2018 meeting :/

Yep dev's will be hard at work lol

We were given a heads up that an increase is coming, so we were adequately prepared. Most companies dealing with banks should've known.
Besides, not having this sort of thing as a configurable value is amateur as hell.

Normally, tax brackets are shifted each year by the value of inflation - so if you get an inflation-related increase, you stay in the same place tax wise.
Now, with a below increase adjustment to brackets, your inflation-related increase is taxed at a higher rate.

Last year the brackets were adjusted by only 1%, and the previous year by about 1.8%.

It would be interesting to see the net effect of the higher VAT but more zero-rated goods.. while there are a lot of non-zero rated goods that will go up as well

But the middle and top end earners will feel it more because there is the tax bracket increase, fuel levy increase and VAT increase which impacts these groups more

You know most food stuffs the poor buy is not charged vat. So they won't feel it as badly as you'd hope unfortunately, it's not like they pay for electricity or water. The sugar tax would affect them more though.
