I want to get myself a blu-ray player. I have about R1000 to spend on one. I would use it occationally for blu-ray discs but most of the time to play movies off an external harddrive. I am currently looking at the LG BD550 at Game for R1000.

Does anyboby here have one of these? Are there any other recommendations? Will .mkv play from the harddrive?

Bought 1 a year ago...works really good...plays mkv and a whole lot of other formats plus it support divx hd..so you can get 1080p mkv with a hd soundtrack...only thing is that it does not have a fiber optical out...fine if you gonna connect it to a reciever or Tv with hdmi ..Reads both ntfs and fat drives ..have used 2 tb drives with no problem...even does subtitles ..worth the bucs

Thats the type of reply I am wanting to hear. My brother-in-law is trying to get me a LG BD590 at cost price, thats the one with a built in HDD.
