Budget Christmas game ideas

Being the only one of my family with a regular income, I feel a burden with the upcoming Christmas expenses. Since it will only be me (earner), my dad (not working), my sister (disabled and not working) and my daughter (10yrs old - so no obligation to contribute), I dont want the pressies under the tree to look disappointing. I know, I know, it isnt about spending money etc, but I'd like minimooks to get all giddy from excitement at the prospect of all those mystery packages.

I have this idea of buying one main present per person within a budget and then getting a few smaller, generic type gifts that we can play some games with. I've googled for ideas but most of them seem to focus on a one gift per person exchange theme, which wont really work with our setup.

Anyone have any ideas for games or ways to make less seem more? For minimooks and my sister I might do a riddle based treasure hunt.

For kids look at cheap alternate stores: PEP, Crazee , in Durban we have places like Ozmans, Everlasting and China Mall. You can pick up odd assortments for Adults there too.

Don't bankrupt yourself for the sake of Christmas, being the main breadwinner , how worse off will you all be if you're broke?

I've heard checkers sometimes has a rand-o-rama where you can get all sorts of things for R1... toy cars etc.

I believe mooks is in The Netherlands? (or is that mouks...can't remember, but...) It'll probably be a little cheaper to get the presents there -assuming this is Dutch mooks.

Thing is I don't want to just buy trinkets coz that's a waste in my mind. So one biggish present each that I know they want should suffice. I want to make it a bit more festive though I was more looking for interactive game ideas.

We played one one year where you could negotiate and barter to get someone else's gift. It was actually quite fun but then we had more people.

Something like that this year would be good. Maybe even pass the parcel (since my daughter and sis are both quite young - some in mind, some in age).

Any other similar ideas ?
