What does Pravin Gordhan have in store for us today?

VAT increased - 1%?

Corporate tax increased?

Sin taxes increased - no question about this one...

Government needs funds for its infrastructure program as announced in the State of the Nation address.

Government needs funds for the NHI launch.

And then.... Government needs funds to keep their electorate happy with social grants!!!

My wish / hope is that Gordhan will tell Government that he cannot continue to milk the small taxpaying base to fund Government's WASTAGE!

If Government could only be more efficient with their allocation and spending of funds then it would be necessary to increase taxes this year... makes you think, doesn't it?

The one funny thing I remember from last year is that some departments don't even spend their budget, which is as much a disservice as over spending.

Fuel Levy to increase by 20 cents
Tax rebates expected, Primary rebate to touch R12000 with secondary rebate to be R7000
Sin tax to increase once again
Pilot NHI to launch in KZN
Social grants to increase - by R20 for children and R40 for old age
Youth Subsidy to be restructured
And lastly corruption to be officially given a % of the budget :D

Although it seems like a huge amount, it has to go a long way in our economy today.

The things I am hoping for in the budget include:
- saving toward retirement
- a reduction in tax on deceased estates

Sin tax will definitely be up. Fuel levy up. Also hoping to see something which stimulate the economy and creates jobs.
