Hi there peeps!

It's another one of these...

I'm hoping to find something:
  • new
  • with a warranty
  • which is as future proof for gaming as possible<- This is critical
Any suggestions?
Thanks
:D

For that price I would say this

NVIDIA GT 640M 2GB isnt bad but future proof im not sure.

If you are looking for future proof for gaming, firstly you are going to want a brand that will last like Asus. And then a decent graphics card.

Looking at my pricelist the only decent laptop with a dedicated card is the Asus S56CB-Xo145H ultra book

This is the card in it:
NVIDIA geforce 740M - 384 CUDA Cores , 980mhz
128bit 2Gb DDR3 - 80Gb/sec

Core-i5-3337U
24gb SATA6G SSD + 750gb 5400rpm sata HDD
6Gb(4+2) DDR3-1600 ( 2 slots upto 16 )

Here's the link http://goo.gl/XIKA7

My price is R8999 :)

Take a look at LaptopDirect. I bought a Gigabyte i5, GT 640M 2GB, 4GB RAM(and added in another 2GB), from them for around R8000, I think. Bought in the beginning of this year.

I too was searching for a gaming laptop on a budget. You're not going to get something top of the range, but don't try to look for that. Its all about looking around for the laptop with the best graphics performance for YOUR buck.

Good luck.

I have my XPS 15 up for sale if interested? R7k
Model is the L502X. Still got warranty until next year sometime, 1080p screen, GT 540M (I think) and i7 CPU. Perfect condition.
In bed now and recalling specs from memory. Will send full details if interested.

Got a new XPS 12 and a Haswell desktop. So not using it.

That MSI laptop at Rebeltech looks like the best "gaming" laptop that is available in SA at this moment for a sub R8k price range.

If you weren't looking for a gaming laptop, then the following Fujitsu laptop would've been pretty awesome:
R7.5k for a Core i7: http://www.dionwired.co.za/computing/computers/notebooks/fujitsu-fujitsu-lifebook-ah532-gfx-i7.html

Just take note that these laptops won't perform nearly as well as a Desktop PC that costs around R8k, although when you bring into account the price of a screen, Windows license, etc., then these laptops are more appealing.
To give you an idea of what these graphics cards in these laptops are like, the laptop GT 645M performs pretty much like a Desktop Radeon HD 4850.
For R8k, you'll be able to get a pretty decent gaming PC, especially if you already have a screen, keyboard and mouse that you can use!

Anything with 640m and higher. My gigabyte lappy has one and its awesome. Borderlands 2. Mass effect 3. Guild wars 2. Cs global offensive all run brilliantly.

I bought my Z580 for R10 000 from incredible corruption. They had the best price. I haven't tried many games, but the standard MMO's run perfectly at 60fps with settings on high or above (League of legends can run maxed out at 50-60fps)

I would actually like to try out some COD, see how that runs. :)
