Can anybody reccomend a budget Media player, something similar to the Med8er. I just need it to play movies onto my TV as i dont have a USB input on my screen. Player must have HDMI connection.

Whats the budget?

Honestly the cheap stuff is exactly that. Cheap.

Im using an xbox, works great to play back avi/mov/mkv/mp3, for mkv though u need win7 streaming it

I've the very first xbox that came out, the 1 without the HDD so can't use that. Surely there must be some sort of player that i could use that doesn't cost and arm and a leg?
Other option is to buy those cheap DivX players from H-Fi corp with USB input and play my movies of that?

You won't find anything with a working USB input and an HDMI output for less than a grand.

What is your budget?

Why don't you just buy a DVD player that can handle DivX and use copied DVDs to watch your stuff... they go for R300 to R600.

If you want something like a Mede8er... then buy a Mede8er.

Surely it has a usb port, you dont need a HDD, but i know the older ones dont have HDMI, to get HDMI you can use the component output into your tv - it's effectively the same thing as HDMI. Play off USB that or stream it from your pc, its so easy to set up the streaming bit

If you can give us an approximation of your budget, then it would really help us out alot

Budget around R1200. Leaning towards the DVD player with USB input for now though as i dont need anything fancy, just looking for the basics to play movies of an externsal source (HDD or Flash stick).

have to go with Xbox, the arcade is about 2K its a bit over your budget, but you get a media center, dvd player and not a bad console. has HDMI too, and ability to stream from your pc to the xbox if you have a home network setup.
if you just want a dvd player with this functionlity look at Sony, LG or samsung most of the have USB inputs and some have HDMI, i dont think any have streaming cabibility.

dont forget on all options the HDD must be formated with Fat32

Mede8ter is on special with esquire right now R1.5K.
Else get one of those cheapie dvd's, sinotec at PicknPay R200 has usb & plays divx ;p

Will this work for DivX/AVI movies on an external HDD?:

Logik DVD Player (HDMI) (DV9100HD)
• True high definition HDMI 1080P
• High Speed USB 2.0 link
• Playback directly from HDD through USB
• 24 Month guarantee
• R329.99

Not sure about Logik, but it is quite cheap.

esquire privio..
got mine with a 1tb hdd.. for just under R1k.
does the job!

I got one. Plays Xvid/AVI movies but not MKV.

My experience - the cheaper DVD players tend to be buggy, out of sync, unstable, etc. Decent, stable DVD player with HDMI and USB will be R500 to R600. Philips 3360. If you're going to spend R600 then might as well just get a media player with HDMI and USB for R1000 to R1500. My 2c.
