Budget media Player

Wlii settle for the Logik DVD player for now. Need a new DVD player anyhow.

Will this work for DivX/AVI movies on an external HDD?:

Logik DVD Player (HDMI) (DV9100HD)
• True high definition HDMI 1080P
• High Speed USB 2.0 link
• Playback directly from HDD through USB
• 24 Month guarantee
• R329.99

Not sure about Logik, but it is quite cheap.

I got one. Plays Xvid/AVI movies but not MKV.

I got one of these today, but what worries me is that it says on the box "USB jack for playback" and nowhere do they mention anything about playback from an external HDD or High Speed USB 2.0 link as mentioned in GAME's ad.

I have a 120GB WD Passport Portable Hard Drive and it does not seem to work. My 1GB memory stick works, but not my 4GB. When I insert the HDD & 4GB the display reverts to 535:00:00.

What do I do? Take it back & accuse them of false advertising? BTW, got it as a gift. :(

And here I thought it would be easy changing the file system to FAT32, not.

How do I go about it?

If you want to keep the data then Using WinXP:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307881

Backup you data first as I have heard of file system instability in some cases after a conversion. Follow MS instructions at your own risk.

Which OS you using?

Edit: Oh, You sorted? Is the DVD player seeing your files now

Good news :) If you get a chance, pls post a short review in a week or so for people needing a budget device with media player capabilities. Just pros and cons. Tks.

Hi rph72, I have purchased the very same dvd play, but am having problem with it playing the .avi movies i have...

I have tried using the memory stick which it sees and plays, but the movie skips a few seconds every now and then....

I copied a few movies on a dvd-rw and a dvd-r, both have the same issues...

Please can you let me know if you are playing avi files on the dvd and if you have any problems with the player...

Hi Lancelot, I have an old hdd from an hp laptop but sad to say the dvd player also only "sees" the recovery partition and not the actual part I require...the hdd drive is only around 80gb. I am struggling man...

Yip, I have a Philips and it also does not see large hard drives. As mentioned earlier in this thread it may be as a result of NTFS formatting as opposed to FAT formatting. Trouble is that reformatting your drive will result in a loss of all your movies.

I have just checked and u were right...it is a ntfs formatted disk...I will dump my movies somewhere else for now and format it soon...let's hope that sorts itself out...

I am still having issues with the skipping though...
