Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying myself a new motherboard, but I'm on a really tight budget. I'm looking at spending about R1000.

What is the best value-for-money motherboard that I can get? It can either be AMD or Intel because I still have to buy a CPU. What specific features should I look for? I have accounts with most suppliers in Cape Town.

Thanks :)

+1 G31 ,currently using the intel g31 as my other board got fried. Its not bad at all but dont expect any overclocking from this mobo.Supports dual channel memory as well.

You can get a decent Biostar board for that price and they clock like a mofo.

But, if you want Sli, RAID or any of the extras go for an AMD board as it seems all the extras work our cheaper.

Got my friend the MSI G31, OCed his E5200 stable at 3.33ghz...could go higher but he didnt want to...on a HyperTX2

Hi guys,

I finally decided on a motherboard - Foxconn G31 (thanks Postman). But now while I was browsing some other forums I found a few 2nd hand Asus Striker Extremes going for about R700, unfortunately they don't come with a warranty. :( So I've just got 2 questions:
How reliable are they ? and
Should I buy the Foxconn just to be on the safe side?

Thanks :)

Im a huge fan of biostars TA790GX boards. You can pick them up for just over 1k for an Xfire mobo, but then again Im a bit of an AMD fanboy.
720 BE + TA790GX = pure happiness

Don't those Strikers use DDR3 (expensive) RAM?

If any of the suppliers can get the Jetway BLUE-P43, that sone hell of a great budget board.

Supports Crossfire..though over a 16x PCI-E 2.0 port and a 4x...but the price for it in China is like R530

Esquire imports Jetway...maybe you can make a special order.
