Budget Speech 2020

Which may or may not be temporary, versus the permanent increase in fuel levies.

I'd be happy if fuel prices dropped regardless, but I don't think that is realistic beyond a month or two (or three?). Of course I'd love to be wrong about high fuel prices.
The coronavirus is going to cause slow growth for the rest of the the year, it could even cause a recession. The oil prices is not going to recover quickly.

Your feels again. Okay then.
Isn't it called opinion? You've shared yours plenty of times; some of it based on your experiences. Almost like this gentleman from OM...
So, based on my experience, public transport increases fares every time their profit margins are threatened. There's nothing wrong with being wrong.

o_O

How can you create artificial demand by cutting production:X3:

You probably meant they can limit supply by cutting production. This does not work any more as Russia will just produce more if Opec cut production.

The fact is that oil prices has dropped a lot and are still dropping.

Are you now going to attack me on semantics? Bottom line is that public transport operators (read taxi organisations) don't have a group of economists crunching numbers for them daily. They see profits dip, they slap R5 to the fare.

Well the rand is tanking. It's now at levels last seen since 2017. Loooovely.

Everything is tanking all over the show, not just us. It's probably the virus
You'd think that, but the Yuan isn't tanking, the AUD isn't tanking, though I guess the fact that the Mexican Peso is following our trend might make me feel a little better.

No no no I've still got stuff to sell and buy, give me a few more months, then it can all fall apart...

Don't just look at currency.
China manipulates the Yaun more than the virus stats.

People are moving money into safe countries, de-risking. Shares and all the emerging markets are taking a knock.

Apples with apples. Need to compare with other developing markets.

The yuan (renminbi) isn't a free float, so you shouldn't expect it to move too much.
