Do any of you use budgeting apps or have any to recommend? Preferably one that can sync with your bank account. It does not have to be free.

Phone and/or PC will work.

YNAB - https://www.ynab.com/

I've used 22Seven. YNAB is better because it's forward looking and has a lot more functionality. You can't connect your South African bank accounts though, so you have to download your transaction history as an OFX file and import it into YNAB (I do this once or twice a week - takes me 5 mins), but it's a small price to pay for the software and reporting functionalities that YNAB offers.

22Seven used to be great.

They released this new app a while ago which dumbs things down a bit. But I think it’s still the best.

PS They’re having an issue with duplicate transactions on FNB right now, so budgeting is near impossible

I have been using Microsoft money since 1998. It’s free.

it doesn’t sync with the bank, You download an ofx file from the bank and then import it.

Its still my preferred as it autosyncs with all my relevant financial institutions. I have noticed some weird things though.

1. Sometimes old transactions don't show up on the mobile app (but they're there on the web interface). Even after removing any date/budget filters.

2. Had a recent issue where a credit card reversal wasn't showing up 22Seven side. I actually queried it with the bank... And they confirmed it was processed. Checked my bank statement it was there... But missing from 22Seven. I guess reversals reflect differently.

3. The recent FNB issues which you've mentioned. Thought something was wrong on my side. Crazy how they've let it go on for so long, especially as FNB is one of the most popular consumer banks.

Its still better than anything I've seen offered by a bank. YNAB might tempt me into a look.

Heads up for those using 22Seven: https://conversations.22seven.com/h...acy-Policy-version-2-6-effective-1-March-2024

We will not share personal information with any other third parties without your consent. You may opt out of these changes within the 22seven web app. Please email [email protected] if you need any help.

I opted out and will continue to use 22Seven.

I just closed my 22seven account, not really using it enough and FNB has its own budgeting built in now.

But I stumbled across upnup which I used a while back. Anyone know what happened to upnup? Seems to have vanished.

FNB has its budget app in the FNB app.
