Bugatti Chiron Replicas Hurt The Eyes

99.9% of the world’s population cannot afford a Bugatti Chiron which means there are a lot of people looking for alternatives including a company in China building ‘replicas’ for those who desire one.

The problem with this is that it is not going to fool a single person as it is a rather comical replica which costs a fraction of the price of the original. It is produced by Shandong Qilu Fengde in Shandong Province, China. It carries the name P8 and occupies a segment of the Chinese market known as LSEV (low speed electric vehicles).

In China you do not need a license to drive an LSEV and it will only set you back 4,255 euros (approx. R63k).

It is powered by an electric motor which produces the equivalent of 3.35 horsepower (2.5 kW). With a 72V lead-acid battery its surprising that it has to be restricted to 50 km/h. The company even claims a 65 km/h top speed without the restrictors.

You have to applaud the dedication but I would rather walk

Bugatti has just finished building the 100th (of 500) Chiron

Bugatti has announced that it has just finished the production and delivery of its 100th Chiron, with the vehicle in question going to a discerning customer from the Arabian Peninsula.

The automaker, which is owned by the Volkswagen Group, has been producing the hypercar by hand at its Molsheim facility since the end of 2016.

The 100th example of this W16-powered monster boasts a dark blue carbon finish, supplied with a matte effect for the first time. The signature side line is painted Italian red, while the wheels feature a “mink black” finish. Inside the full-leather interior, red is the dominant colour.

The price of this particular example? About €2,85-million (that’s around R42-million)…

“I find the 100th Chiron especially pleasing. It is dynamic and elegant in equal measure. This car shows that Bugatti produces highly individualised masterpieces of automobile craftsmanship that are simply unparalleled,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president of Bugatti.

It may have taken nearly two years to reach triple figures, but Bugatti says production of the Chiron is “running at full speed”. In total, 500 examples will be produced.

In March 2018, Bugatti took the wraps off its new Chiron Sport, which retains the 1 119 kW/1 600 N.m outputs, but gains “even greater agility”.

Lego reveals incredible 1:8 Bugatti Chiron model kit

Time was when Lego bricks were good for constructing model buildings, clumsy little aeroplanes, lumpy-looking pirate ships and not much else.

Then the Lego designers put wheels under their bricks - and suddenly the sky was the limit, as Lego models of cars, trucks and all sorts of machinery became possible, rivalling even British competitor Meccano for versatility.

That gave rise to Lego Technic, a range of purpose-built kits containing all the bricks and components necessary to build a specific model, usually with a number of custom parts, for doors that would open and steering that would steer, to make the model unique.

And this is the latest in the Technic series, revealed on Friday at Lego headquarters in Billund, Denmark - a one-eighth scale model of the Bugatti Chiron - 3599 parts that fit together to create a replica model more than 560mm long, 250mm wide and 140mm high.

The intricate details include aerodynamic bodywork in Bugatti’s signature two-tone blue livery, an active rear wing, spoked rims with low-profile tires, working suspension and detailed disc brakes, and a W16 engine with moving pistons.

Open the doors and you find a detailed cockpit with a Bugatti logo on the steering wheel and an working eight-speed paddle-shift gearbox. Each individual model comes with its own unique serial number on a plaque under the bonnet, which will unlock special content on the www.lego.com/technic website.

There’s even a key that moves the active rear wing from handling to top speed position - and a replica of a stylish Bugatti overnight bag under the bootlid. And when you’ve finished assembling the model, the instruction manual becomes a coffee-table book about the Bugatti Chiron and how this incredibly detailed replica model was created.

It’s available from 1 June at Lego stores and online at €369.99 (R5460) and at Lego stockist worldwide from 1 August.

Limited Edition Bugatti Chiron Divo Will Cost Twice As Much As A Chiron Sport

Back in April this year, Bugatti showed a secret Chiron hypercar at a private event in Los Angeles which has since been called the Chiron Divo.

TheSupercarBlog has managed to draw some information from one of the attendees at the exclusive unveiling held in New York recently so this is what we can expect;

- Numerous upgrades over the standard car (same 1,500 hp as Chiron Sport)
- It will feature a racing transmission but the car will be street legal
- The kerb weight has also been greatly reduced
- Lower top speed of 385 km/h (239 mph) – indicates more downforce
- Acceleration to be “a lot quicker” (Chiron deals with 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds)
- Less than 100 units of the Chiron Divo will be built (all spoken for)

The Chiron Divo will apparently be revealed at Pebble Beach next month with the first customer cars being delivered in or around 2020.

The price tag is a reported €5 million ($5.8 million) before options making it double the price of the Chiron Sport.

Sources are thinking it will be heavily based on the immense lightweight Chiron inspired by the Vision Gran Turismo.

Bugatti is building a new ‘light and nimble’ model called Divo

Bugatti has confirmed that it is working on a new model called the Divo, which the French automaker promises will be “light and nimble” and “boast enormous downforce and g-forces”.

The firm – which finished the production and delivery of its 100th of 500 Chiron units in May 2018 – said that the new model would be limited to just 40 units, with each priced from €5-million (that’s close to R80-million at the current exchange rate).

Named after Albert Divo, the French racing driver who won the famous Targa Florio race on a mountainous circuit in Sicily for Bugatti twice in the late 1920s, the Volkswagen Group brand said the new model would feature “outstanding handling properties” as well as a “new, strong design language”.

“Happiness is not around the corner. It is the corner. The Divo is made for corners,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president of Bugatti.

“With the Divo, we want to thrill people throughout the world. With this project, the Bugatti team has an opportunity to interpret the brand DNA in terms of agile, nimble handling in a significantly more performance-oriented way.”

The new model is scheduled to be unveiled in late August 2018 at the “The Quail – A Motorsports Gathering“ in California.

Bugatti to reveal new R78.6-million Divo hyper car

Do you like life in the fast lane? Then start saving up for the Bugatti Divo, the French firm’s latest hyper car.

It’s named after Albert Divo, the French racing driver who won the famous Targa Florio race on a mountainous circuit in Sicily for Bugatti twice in the late 1920s. Based on the requirements for such a race, the Bugatti Divo will be light and nimble and capable of producing enormous downforce and g-forces.

The car will reportedly use the Bugatti Chiron’s chassis and 1103kW 8-litre turbo engine, but wrap a lighter and more aerodynamically extreme body around it. What the French beast will look like remains a closely-guarded secret - Bugatti has only provided a teaser picture of its embroidered badge - but all will be revealed when the car makes its world debut at Monterey Car Week in California, USA on August 24.

“Happiness is not around the corner. It is the corner. The Divo is made for corners,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.

“With the Divo, we want to thrill people throughout the world,” the Bugatti President continues. “With this project, the Bugatti team has an opportunity to interpret the brand DNA in terms of agile, nimble handling in a significantly more performance-oriented way.”

The Divo is being made in a limited series of only 40 vehicles and it will cost €5 million (R78.6-million) - about twice the price of the Chiron. We did say you needed to start saving...

Bugatti Chiron ‘Sky View’ glass roof option adds headroom

Bugatti releases a fixed sunroof for 1479bhp Chiron; model equipped with the new option will be on display at next month’s Monterey Car Week

Bugatti’s £2.5m Chiron has no shortage of expensive customisation options, but the hypercar maker has just extended the list with a new ‘Sky View’ glass roof.

The option replaces the 1479bhp Chiron’s standard aluminium roof with two 650mm by 440mm laminated panels positioned above the driver and passenger seats.

No price has been given, but we can expect the option to add several thousand pounds to the Chiron’s seven-figure list price.

The fixed Sky View roof panels are made up of four layers, each of which is designed to reduce wind noise and reflect infrared radiation to ensure “maximum thermal comfort”, in Bugatti's words. The glass is tinted for privacy and to prevent sun dazzling, while harmful UV rays are also filtered out.

Bugatti claims the Chiron Sky View improves the stiffness of the car’s roof panels, with no effect on overall rigidity or crash safety. Another welcome side effect is that the panels offer an additional 270mm of headroom over the standard car.

A Chiron fitted with the roof panels will make its public debut at the end of next month during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance at Monterey Car Week. The roof is available to order now.

LEGO Create Full Size Bugatti Chiron That Actually Drives

LEGO (Technic) and Bugatti are no strangers to each other and it seems the Chiron is the attracting force because they have taken their relationship to a whole new level.

Anyone can go out and buy the LEGO Chiron kit but no one can go and buy a full-size driveable Chiron like you see here. The two companies teamed up to build this full-size, fully drivable Chiron replica out of over 1 million Lego Technic pieces.

It even packs 2,304 little motors from the Lego Power Function series and 4,032 Technic gear wheels to make it actually drive. Of course it is not as fast as the real deal considering it has 5.3 horsepower (4 kW) and 92 Nm of torque but the 1.5-metric-ton replica is said to top out at little over 12 mph (20 km/h).

It took more than 13,000 man hours to develop and build and made use of 339 different types of Lego pieces.

“Driving the LEGO Chiron was a great experience, which I thoroughly enjoyed,” said Wallace. “All those years ago I could never have imagined that one day I would actually drive a LEGO car!”

“This life-size model is a first of its kind in so many ways and with it, we wanted to push the boundaries of our own imagination,” added Lego VP Lena Dixen. “Our Technic designers and the engineers from the Kladno factory in the Czech Republic, the place which also builds the impressive models for LEGO Stores and LEGOLAND parks, have done an amazing job both at recreating the Chiron’s iconic shapes and making it possible to drive this model. It’s a fascinating example of the LEGO Technic building system in action and its potential for creative reinvention.”

17-Year-Old Takes Driving Test In $4 Million Bugatti Chiron

For most of us, we took our driver’s test in something very plain and inconspicuous but what if your family has a garage that has nothing of the sort?

Earlier this month, Matt Spector (the test taker) was collected from school by The Stradman and taken to the DMV to take his test in the Molsheim hypercar.

As you can imagine with 1,500 horsepower under your right foot it would be fairly hard to remain calm during the test and although Matt did, he did lose a point for “jerky acceleration.”

You will be pleased to know he passed the test and very likely became the only person in the world to do so in a Bugatti.

Bugatti boss confirms Chiron’s W16 will be ‘last of its kind’

Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann says the Chiron’s W16 will be the “last of its kind”, suggesting increasingly strict emissions legislation will kill off the hefty quad-turbo engine “sooner or later”.

Speaking to Autocar, Winkelmann said the French brand would – like every other major automaker – soon be forced to take “radical steps” when it comes to powertrain development.

“Sooner or later, the legislation will force everybody to take radical steps,” the former Audi Sport boss told the British publication.

While Winkelmann didn’t say it outright, it’s all but certain the Chiron’s eventual replacement will feature some sort of electrification.

“There will be no new 16-cylinder. This will be the last of its kind,” the 53-year-old added of the 8,0-litre unit that is currently used in the Chiron, Chiron Sport and Divo.

And that’s not all that’s changing at Bugatti. In September 2018, Winkelmann dropped a pretty hefty hint the brand is considering building a super-SUV, revealing he would look “at every body style”…
