Bugatti Chiron

Except for the rebranded VW key. WhoTF even uses keys anymore :D

Let's all play a game of "spot the Figo owner who can't afford a Bugatti" :D

People on this forum seems to be genuinely bitter towards supercars and their owners. I don't that other people can buy it, at least I can then see one every now and then. Who the hell whats to only see toyota's, fords and vw's everyday?

Bugatti reveals lighter, more agile Chiron Sport…

Bugatti has taken the wraps off its new Chiron Sport at the Geneva International Motor Show, “significantly” improving the handling and adding “even greater agility” to the hypercar.

The Volkswagen Group brand says it developed the Chiron Sport for customers wanting an even sportier driving experience, with improved lateral dynamics on winding roads. Interestingly, the Chiron Sport does not gain in the power or performance data departments, which means it still uses an 8,0-litre, W16 engine with as many as four turbochargers. Peak power output thus remains 1 119 kW, while maximum torque is still 1 600 N.m.

A dynamic handling package has been added and the weight of the vehicle reduced by about 18 kg, allowing higher cornering speeds. The pack includes stiffer suspension, a new control strategy for the shock absorbers, tweaked steering and an optimised rear-axle differential.

So, how will you spot a Chiron Sport? Well, this model features a new wheel design and fresh four-pipe exhaust deflectors. In addition, the Chiron Sport can be ordered with an optional colour and trim package, allowing customers to individually tailor the appearance of their vehicle.

Inside, the engine starter button and the driving mode selector on the steering wheel have an anodised black finish, while the “Sport” logo is added to the door sill strips along with an insert on the central console with an embroidered “Chiron Sport” logo.

“The Chiron Sport has become perceptibly more nimble and its new agility, especially in tight corners makes for a much more emotional experience for the driver on winding roads and handling circuits,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president of Bugatti.

Interestingly, the Chiron Sport also becomes the first production car to feature windscreen wiper arms fashioned from (you guessed it) carbon-fibre.

Owners of those cars obviously. They think that splashing out R600k on a GTI is impressive, when you're going to see another one in 2 minutes time anyway...

Well, I don't mind the GTI, or any other cars. But these supercars are on a whole different level of cool.

Bugatti reveals lighter, more agile Chiron Sport

Two years after the debut of the Chiron, Bugatti is presenting the Chiron Sport at Palexpo, with the same drivetrain but with improved handling and agility, thanks to a dynamic handling package and 18 kilograms of what Lotus founder Colin Chapman would have called added lightness.

Its engine is unchanged (four turbos, eight litres, 16 cylinders, 1103 kilowatts and 1600Nm are insane enough, thank you very much) as is the Chiron’s estimated top speed of 463km/h, but the steering is quicker and the adaptive suspension damping is 10 percent stiffer all round. These upgrades only apply when you’re in Handling mode; suspension and steering are as per the standard model when you’re in default EB mode.

The rear differential has been upgraded and the Chiron Sport has a dynamic torque vectoring function that distributes torque individually to the wheels on each side, to improve steering accuracy and agility in tight corners - whatever drive mode you’re in.

The weight savings are mostly due to new lightweight wheels (the best possible place to shave weight off a car), thinner glass in the rear window, a new, lighter exhaust deflector and increased use of carbon-fibre componentry, notably the stabiliser, intercooler cover, and the newly developed windscreen wipers with 3D printed aluminium tips - an industry first, according to Bugatti.

Chapman famously said: “If you make a car more powerful it will go faster on the straights - if you make it lighter it will go faster everywhere.” In the Chiron Sport, that translates to an impressive five seconds lopped off its lap time around the Nardò handling circuit in the south of Italy.

The Sport is distinguished from the Chiron by its special ‘Course’ wheels, a new four-pipe exhaust deflector with round, rather than rectangular tailpipes, and inside by its black-anodised engine starter button and drive mode selector switch, the ‘Sport’ logo embossed on the door sill strips and embroidered ‘Chiron Sport’ logos on the seats.

Colour and trim options

There’s also a package of colour and trim options for the Chiron Sport, all of which you’ll see on the show car in the pictures; the body has a classic two-tone colour scheme with red in front (the B-colour) and visible carbon-fibre (the A-colour) at the rear. B-colour options are red, blue, silver and dark grey

The distinctive side line, a C-shaped aluminium trim strip, is painted in the B-colour, as are the brake callipers, the EB logo on the hubcaps, the underside of the rear spoiler and the intercooler cover lettering. The B-colour is also used inside on the contrast stitching, seatbelts, the surround of the C-shaped light bar in the centre of the vehicle, the back of the rear-view mirror and the lining of the centre console stowage compartment.

You had to ask

The Bugatti Chiron Sport costs €2.65 million (R38.58 million) or €2.98 million (R43.39) including the optional colour and trim package, ex works. First deliveries to customers are planned for the end of 2018.

You have to add import duties and whatnot to these prices if imported to South Africa. Come to think of it, I am sure we had a quote request (insurance) for a similar vehicle recently. Must go see what happened with that.

Bugatti Boss Says Chiron Top Speed Not Important At The Moment

Bugatti has already sold 320 out of the 500 planned units of the mega car known as the Chiron so it has already proven itself a success.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed in an interview with CNBC that a top speed test is on the backburner for now.

“I have a lot on my plate. The speed test is not my priority. I have a lot of things to do”, Winkelmann said.

“I don’t even know how fast our car can go.” he added and then finished off by saying “maybe, I don’t know” when asked whether the Molsheim built beast will ever be put through a top speed test.

Could Koenigsegg’s Agera RS’ multiple records be the reason? At this stage that is my guess.
