Bugatti’s plan for a second model has been put on hold

As we mentioned last week, Bugatti’s relationship with the Volkswagen Group will be under review next month at the brand’s group strategy meeting. Amidst this uncertainty, it has been revealed that the French-born brand’s plan to develop a second model has been put on hold.

Talking to Bloomberg, Bugatti chief Stephan Winkelmann revealed that this decision to evaluate Bugatti and Volkswagen’s partnership was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic’s damage to the car industry. Despite this, he is confident that the hypercar brand will generate record revenue this year.

“We had talks about a second-model line-up,” Winkelmann said. “This was now blocked due to the coronavirus crisis; we’re not talking about what’s coming next.”

It’s apparent that traditional supercar buyers have been less exposed to the economic impact of the pandemic however, niche manufacturers which favour internal combustion engines are under heavy scrutiny from emission regulations in key markets. Furthermore, the economic downturn has made it a challenge for manufacturers to justify spending resources on cars that can clear 400 km/h.

You Can Lease A Bugatti Chiron Sport For R1 Million A Month

Whenever we talk about Bugatti we generally talking big numbers be it speed or price but what if you were to lease a Chiron?

A used white 2019 Chiron Sport in the US of A carries a price tag of $3.3 million so Brooks from DragTimes went down to Lamborghini Broward dealership in Florida to see if he could afford the hypercar by leasing it.

Theoretically speaking (as Brooks video is), his Ferrari F8 Tributo would be the down payment which comes to $350,000.

If he was to opt for a three-year lease plan, he would fork out $52,196 a month but it if he wanted to drop that to just two years, then that number shoots to $65,950 per month.

Bugatti Bolide Concept

Reduced, raw, authentic. With the technological concept of the Bugatti Bolide, the French luxury car manufacturer is now providing the answer to the question what if Bugatti built a radically light vehicle around its iconic 8.0-litre W16 engine? The experimental study of the Bugatti Bolide is a track-oriented hyper sports car featuring a W16 engine derived from series production as powertrain combined with a minimal body for maximum downforce. It therefore promises to offer the ultimate Bugatti performance kick.

At the same time, the Bugatti Bolide is the most extreme, uncompromising, fastest and lightest vehicle concept in the company's recent history - with an incredible weight-to-power ratio of 0.67 kg per PS. This is made possible by the combination of the W16 engine with 1,850 PS and a vehicle weight of just 1,240 kilograms. The Bugatti Bolide achieves figures that are almost on par with Formula 1 while its top speed is well above 500 km/h - without compromising maximum handling and maximum agility. The Bolide takes 3:07.1 minutes to complete a lap of Le Mans and 5:23.1 minutes to get around the Nordschleife.

New Bugatti Bolide revealed with 1 361 kW and 500+ km/h top speed!

Bugatti has taken the wraps off its new two-seater Bolide, a track-focused hypercar based on the Chiron and boasting 1 361 kW and a top speed of “well above 500 km/h”.

Before we go any further, let us point out the French firm says it “has not been decided yet” whether the Bolide will go into series production.

So, what do we know? Well, the familiar 8,0-litre W16 engine has been tuned to deliver 1 361 kW and 1 850 N.m (using 110 octane racing fuel), with Bugatti saying it has “optimised the engine and gearbox in particular for higher engine speeds”.

Four newly developed turbochargers have been fitted, while the oil circuit, oil pressure, check valves, baffles, oil tanks, oil reservoirs and pump design of the dry-sump lubrication system have been “optimised”. Instead of water-to-air intercooling, the Bolide employs air-to-air intercooling with water pre-cooling.

The new Bolide has a wheelbase of 2 750 mm and a width of 1 990 mm, standing a mere 995 mm tall. According to the company, the newcomer weighs just 1 240 kg dry, which combined with all that oomph would result in a lap round the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 5:23,1 (according to "simulations").

Bugatti Chiron Sport “Les Légendes Du Ciel” Edition Revealed

Bugatti has decided to honour its racing drivers from the “golden decade” with a new edition of the Chiron Sport.

It has been dubbed the “Les Légendes du Ciel” and will be limited to just 20 units. It references many of the historic aircrafts in which Bugatti pilots gained profitable experience. In addition to the unusual colour of the paintwork, the vehicle includes a special full leather interior with hand-drawn sketches and diamond-cut aluminium.

The stand out feature is of course the special matt-grey “Gris Serpent” paintwork which is a modern interpretation of the exterior colour of the aircrafts from the 1920s. This stretches across the entire vehicle and is traversed from the front to the rear via the extending rear spoiler with a high-contrast, white gloss centre stripe. The front wings are adorned with the “Les Légendes du Ciel“ logo. The “Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge” tricolour in Blue, White and Red decorate the front area of the side sills made of exposed black carbon fibre.

The horseshoe shaped grille is finished in gloss black while the grille mesh is made of laser-cut and deep-drawn aluminum, on which the dynamic pattern of the stitched seams is repeated on the leather seats, reminiscent of planes flying in formation in an air parade.

How the Bugatti Chiron became the first 300mph road car

Driver Andy Wallace tells us how he pushed a £3m, 1578bhp production car north of 300mph

When Bugatti broke the 300mph barrier with the Chiron last year, it looked like a record that might stand forever. Reaching the unlikely peak of 304.77mph had required considerable engineering effort – and the creation of what became the Chiron 300+ special edition – but also exclusive use of the 12-mile high-speed track at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien proving ground in Germany.

It took driver Andy Wallace nearly a week to build up to the record speed, and he only reached his target on the final run of the last day. When Bugatti boss Stephan Winkelmann announced the record, he also said the firm wouldn’t seek to defend it.

Then in October, relative minnow SSC from the US announced that it had not just broken the Chiron’s record but smashed it. Its 1750bhp Tuatara, running on public roads in Nevada, had reportedly been driven to a two-way average of 316.11mph by British racer Oliver Webb, having hit 331.15mph in one direction.

That seemingly impossible figure soon had internet sleuths exhaustively analysing the video footage of the run, with some reckoning the car hadn’t gone nearly as fast. SSC stands by its numbers, blaming a video editing error, but boss Jerod Shelby has now said his company will answer the doubters by doing the whole thing again.

Bugatti customer orders bespoke Chiron Sport 'as a gift for his wife'

Bugatti says this special Chiron Sport – dubbed the “Alice” – was ordered by a customer “as a gift for his wife”.

Created at the automaker’s Molsheim design centre, the Chiron Sport Alice is finished in Matt Blanc and a specially created Silk Rosé hue.

Inside, you’ll find a mix of leather and Alcantara finished in Gris Rafale, complete with bespoke “Alice” stitching in the headrest of the comfort-spec seats. The custom logo is repeated on the door sills, finished in aluminium and the same Silk Rosé hue.

As you'd expect, the special Chiron Sport features the brand's 8,0-litre W16 engine.

Bugatti says the order journey began at H.R Owen Bugatti in London, England, with dealership staff members accompanying the buyer to the brand’s headquarters in France.

It’s official: the 300th Bugatti Chiron has been assembled at Molsheim

With a planned run of 500 units, Bugatti confirms that the 300th Chiron has been completed and has left the boutique hypercar brand’s atelier in Molsheim, France. Since production began in 2016, Bugatti expresses that this is a very important moment for the company.

“Bugatti stands for the most extraordinary, most powerful and most elegant hyper sports cars in the world. With the now 300th vehicle produced, we are again showing our competence in quality and customisation,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti. “The Chiron Pur Sport is guaranteed to give customers pleasure. In addition to its unbelievable driving performance, it combines highest engineering and design skill as well as superb craftsmanship.”

The 300th customer configured this Chiron down to the smallest detail. He chose Nocturne as the dominant paintwork for the Pur Sport which he contrasted with Grey Carbon on the mirror arms and housings, windshield wipers, horseshoe and rear wing. The logo has been finished in Gris Rafale while the signature C-line, taillamp bezels and wheels are completed in Gun Powder to complete the dark theme. The engine cover makes use of a light carbon bonnet.
