This is your best look yet at the new Bugatti Divo’s silhouette

Back in July, Bugatti confirmed that it was working on a new model called the Divo, which it promised would be “light and nimble” and “boast enormous downforce and g-forces”. Since then, the French automaker has released a handful of teasers, but this latest one is the most revealing of the lot.

Posted to the brand’s Facebook page, the (sadly low-resolution) image above – which depicts the new model tucked safely under a blue sheet – gives us an idea of the new Divo’s dramatic silhouette.

Set to be revealed on August 24, the Divo will be limited to a mere 40 units, with each priced from €5-million (that’s more than R80-million at the current exchange rate).

Named after Albert Divo, the French racing driver who won the famous Targa Florio race on a mountainous circuit in Sicily for Bugatti twice in the late 1920s, the Volkswagen Group brand said the new model would feature “outstanding handling properties” as well as a “new, strong design language”.

“Happiness is not around the corner. It is the corner. The Divo is made for corners,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president of Bugatti. “With the Divo, we want to thrill people throughout the world. With this project, the Bugatti team has an opportunity to interpret the brand DNA in terms of agile, nimble handling in a significantly more performance-oriented way.”

Bugatti shows Divo silhouette in new teaser

Just four days ahead of its official reveal, Bugatti has released a teaser image showing the silhouette of its new Divo hypercar - albeit hidden beneath a cover.

Although it will be built on the Chiron’s chassis, and share its 1103kW 16-cylinder engine, the Divo will sport a more radical exterior design, with elaborate aerodynamic measures lending it more downforce.
Bugatti also promises it’ll be lighter and ultimately quicker around corners.

“This one is quite a bit more beast,” head exterior designer Frank Heyl promises:
“The uncompromising interpretation of the Divo towards lateral dynamics has opened up a new set of possibilities for us, expressed in a more performance oriented design.”

Project leader Pierre Rommelfanger added that the coachbuilding approach to its design allowed designers and engineers to create a “radical new exterior” with several aerodynamic features.
Just how radical?

We’ll have to wait until Thursday, August 24 to find out.

Just 40 Bugatti Divos will ever be made, selling at 5 million euro (R82m) apiece.
The car is named after Albert Divo, who won the legendary Targa Florio mountain race in Sicily twice in the late 1920s.

Bugatti Divo

Curtains up for the Bugatti Divo. At the exclusive automotive event "The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering" in Monterey, California, Bugatti has presented its latest model as a world premiere. With the Divo, the French luxury brand has developed a super sports car tuned for agility, nimbleness and optimum handling performance on winding roads. It is powered by Bugatti's iconic eight-litre W16 engine with a power output of 1,500 PS. The aerodynamics of the model have been intensively fine-tuned and the suspension and chassis settings have been modified. As a result, the Bugatti Divo is 35 kilograms (77 lbs) lighter and has 90 kilograms (198 lbs) more downforce than the standard Chiron. The lateral acceleration of the Divo has been boosted to 1.6 g. Its maximum speed is limited to 380 km/h (236 mph). The Divo can lap the Nardò handling circuit in southern Italy eight seconds faster than the Chiron. The series will only consist of 40 vehicles. Upon the start of presentations to selected customers, the strictly limited small series, with a net unit price of €5 million, sold out immediately.

I came in to comment on the silly name.
But when a hypercar looks like that...I don't really care if it's called glitterskid. The Chiron was ok; it looked cool in blue but I never really liked that wide arc on the side doors. They've tucked that in and pulled it sharper and the whole thing looks more digital and futuristic. Their best looking car.

So what exactly is the Divo meant to be? A track focused Chiron or a variant of the Chiron? e.g. how you get a Polo Trendline and Polo Comfortline?

New Bugatti Divo: track-focused Chiron-based hypercar launched

Bugatti has unveiled its new Divo hypercar, a Chiron-based machine designed for improved track performance, at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Limited to 40 models, and already fully sold out despite the£4.5 million price tag, the Divo features a bespoke exterior design, modified chassis and improved aerodynamics. The result is a claimed eight-second improvement on the Chiron’s lap time around the Nardo handling circuit.

Described as the “modern interpretation of Bugatti’s coachbuilding division”, the Divo - named after two-time Targa Florio winner Albert Divo - features an aggressive redesign including a unique front-end look. A large front splitter boosts downforce and feeds air to the enlarged intakes, while new vertically oriented LED headlights give the Divo a unique lighting signature.

Great attention has been made to improve brake and powertrain cooling through a raft of new inlets across the bonnet and wings. Even the roof has been altered to form an air duct optimising the flow of cold air through a specially designed engine cover.

The rear end is just as purposeful, with a new height-adjustable rear spoiler which is 23 per cent wider than the Chiron’s. It inherits the air braking function from its sibling, too, while new rear lights are formed of 3D printed fins, 44 of which light up to produce a striking lighting effect.

The result of all the bodywork changes is a 90kg improvement in downforce, increasing maximum lateral cornering forces to 1.6g.

The chassis fine-tuning was aimed at making the Divo sharper and more agile in the bends than the Chiron, too. Increased camber - necessary for the desired handling characteristics - has seen the top speed limited to 236mph, while the steering and suspension have been tweaked to ensure a more direct response to inputs. Lightweight wheels, carbonfibre parts and reduced insulation contribute to a 35kg weight saving.

Inside, upgrades have been made including new, more supportive seats and redesigned Alcantara steering wheel. The cabin is trimmed in a variety of new materials, with a two-tone effect mirroring the external paintwork.

No changes to the Chiron’s eight-litre, quad-turbo W16 engine, which still puts out 1,479bhp through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The 0-62mph time is quoted at 2.4 seconds, which is also identical to the Divo's cheaper sibling.

Wow. That's very blue.

I also notice that the driver's side is much bluer than the passenger side. I can only assume that is to give the emergency workers a visual indication where to cut after you wrapped the car around a tree @380km/h.

Bugatti unleashes extreme new Divo hypercar

Bugatti has ripped the covers off its highly anticipated, and lusted after, Divo hypercar and as expected it sports a beefed up exterior design that won’t have it mistaken for your ‘regular’ Chiron.

And exclusive it is - Bugatti will build no more than 40 Divos, at 5 million euro (a cool R82.5-million) apiece, and they’ve all been sold.

The Divo is powered by the same 8-litre W16 engine that does service in the Chiron, and Bugatti saw no need to improve upon its 1103kW and 1600Nm outputs as this exclusive project is all about improving control.

“The Divo is made for corners,” says Bugatti President Stephan Winkelmann.

“The Divo has significantly higher performance in terms of lateral acceleration, agility and cornering.”

It achieves this through a 35kg weight reduction, sportier suspension and some elaborate aerodynamic modifications. These include, among other measures, a flow-optimised roof, redesigned diffuser as well as wider front and rear spoilers, the latter being adjustable and also capable of serving as an air brake.

Boasting 90kg more downforce than the Chiron, as well as higher lateral acceleration of 1.6g, the new beast is said to be eight seconds faster around the Nardò handling circuit in southern Italy.

Increasing the camber to optimise cornering prowess has however necessitated reducing the electronically limited top speed from 420km/h to 380km/h.

“To date, a modern Bugatti has represented a perfect balance between high performance, straight-line dynamics and luxurious comfort. Within our possibilities, we have shifted the balance in the case of the Divo further towards lateral acceleration, agility and cornering,” Winkelmann enthused.

The Divo was named after French racing driver Albert Divo, who twice won the legendary Targa Florio in Sicily at the wheel of a Bugatti Type 35 B.

New Bugatti Divo is slower than a Chiron … but more agile

The new Bugatti Divo has been unveiled in Monterey, California, billed as “a super sports car tuned for agility, nimbleness and optimum handling performance”.

Just 40 examples will be built, each starting at €5-million. Keep your wallet in your pocket, though – all have already been sold.

As with the Chiron on which it is based, the Divo is powered by a quad-turbo 8,0-litre W16 engine, churning out 1 103 kW. But the French automaker has “intensively fine-tuned” the new model’s aerodynamics, while the suspension and chassis settings have also been thoroughly modified.

Compared with the Chiron, the Divo is 35 kg lighter and boasts 90 kg more downforce. Its lateral acceleration has been boosted to 1,6 g, while maximum speed is limited to 380 km/h (thanks chiefly to the Divo’s increased camber), compared with the 420 km/h the Chiron is able to achieve.

So, what sort of aero tweaks have been made? Well, the Bugatti Divo’s front cover is equipped with air intakes that effectively reduce the cross-sectional area of the vehicle while also ensuring improved air flow and aerodynamic efficiency.

The new front spoiler provides higher downforce and guides more air to the front air inlets, something that also improves overall cooling. The brakes, meanwhile, are cooled by four independent air sources on each side of the vehicle.

The Divo’s roof forms a flow-optimized air inlet and, in combination with the specially designed engine compartment cover, ensures a “very high air mass flow to the engine compartment”, according to Bugatti.

At the rear, you’ll find a height-adjustable (1,83-metre wide) rear spoiler which functions as an air brake when turned forwards and is set to different angles for the individual driving modes. The rear diffuser has been entirely redesigned (and accommodates four tailpipes), helping to increase total downforce to 456 kg.

Good catch. Didn't even see that. :)
