Building a new PC at rAge?

Hi all,

So im looking to build a new PC for BF3 and since I have never been, I was wondering if rage is the type place to shop for components. Do the shops actively sell there and offer specials or do they just showcase their shops? Would I pick up a number of bargains?

Would you recommend it as a day out to search for all my components?

Bring your card. You'll be able to purchase stuffs from all the shops there. Just walk around and see what takes your fancy.
 
Make sure you have a rough idea of much the components you want cost, so you don't get some BS from a salesman, but there usually are decent deals floating around.. It also doesn't hurt to use pricecheck on your phone or similar while you there...
 
Ja, I do have an idea of what I want. I'm doing research and trying to get the best prices possible and see if I can beat them at rAge. I already have pricing from all the shops that will be there, just not sure if Esquire and co will be having good sales...like the Heritage day sale they had...6950 2gb for R2100. That was awesome. Too bad I missed it.
 
have a look around, some shops prices will remain the same as there respective online store, others do offer a general fair discount on their stock, you will no doubt walk away happy, for the past 3 years iv been going for the expo i have bought some sort of hardware from rage and yeah as mentioned above, do a quick pricecheck and make sure doesnt hurt :)
 
So long as you know price vs performance of all the cards, mobos and CPUs you are thinking of looking at. Trying to look at benchmarking results/what works well with what - on your phone is going to be one huge mission. Arrive well researched!

There will definitely be good specials there. I know that some of the online stores will be there as well (such as Landmark PC) and hopefully they will have some Rage specials
 
I have a spreadsheet on my phone of the exact components I am looking for and the cheapest I can get them which is Rebel Tech...Sadly they wont be there.

Also, I have some things happening on Carbonite. Its just difficult to get the good deals. Some people spend their life being vultures on that forum ;) My productivity took a huge dive today. I was basically hitting refresh every 3 seconds... :)
 
Well please let us know if you see any sick specials at rage.

Last 5 years Ive gone have been a complete waste imo, "specials" were really standard prices or in some cases a bit more than normal retail price.
 
Didnt really find anthying. Best I could find was the Asus HD6870 1GB for R1999...which isnt that fantastic as a special.

Definitely not the place to hunt down specials....
 
Nope, no specials, went there and everything was as expensive or more expensive than from Esquire or other distributors.

Well most people don't have access to distributors so you're a special case.

I managed to pick up a 320gig PS3 for R2199.

Well as MyBB members, we have access to Esquire at least and you can get most of what you need from them at low prices..

Esquire is pretty close to one of the cheapest distibutors, sometimes Sahara has a few items at lower prices but it isn't significantly lower (R10 here and R50 there).

And as somebody mentioned in another thread, Sahara only has 1 year warranty...

My point was more that they are priced well (Esquire) :p But yeah, now Esquire sounds even better.
